I have Nintendont running in vWii, and I am trying to play Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes with cheats.

But when I copy the game.gct to the games folder on my SD Card, then turn cheats on in the settings, the game doesn't load, I get a black screen. But if I turn the cheats option off, the game loads fine.

I am using the cheat file from this post:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/all-cheats-text-for-usb-loader-and-nintendont.373990/

The cheat file is named GGSEA4.txt, but i renamed it to game.gct.

Does anyone know how to get cheats to load with the game properly without the game freezing and showing just a black screen?

You must create .gct file using Notepad++
Select Save As and Other Extensions and add .gct to the end of the file.
Should fix your issue.

Im having the same issue with time splitters (both) I have nintendont channel that does load up all my Gamecube game perfectly from USB so looking in to cheats today I tried a lot of thing
first I did download those files for seek however its apparently not needed anymore if you have a ver over 3.336 or somewhere around that
but I have tired using the Ocarina cheat code maker from the txt files in that same site the games don't load same as you I tired putting them all over the place naming them not naming same result I seen videos of people just simply putting them in the same game folder with the ID name and the folder being the same but still nothing
I just tried notepad++ didn't change anything
I read that codes that start with 48 don't work so even avoiding them isn't helping
if someone could help myself and this poster it be very appreciated

That is exactly what is happening to me. Its strange.

In the Nintedont settings, I wonder what settings do I enable? There are 2 settings for cheats, there is "Cheats" and "Cheats Path". The "Cheats Path" option doesn't have a description, so im not sure what it does, and if its necessary to enable cheats.

And even if I have the gct cheat file in the folder with the game iso, it doesn't load the game, i get a black screen. But if I go back into settings and disable the cheats option, the game boots perfectly fine and I am able to play without a problem.

So it MUST have something to do with the cheat file itself. I think I am going to try to find a premade "gct' file and look at it with Notepad++, that way I can see exactly how the cheat file is formatted with the codes.

I will report back with what I find.

It looks like the "gct" files are encrypted and cannot be read in plain text. So you have to use a program to make your "gct" so it can encrypt it for you.

I just found this site - http://geckocodes.org/index.php?gct=

That is the direct link to the online "gct" creator. Just paste the code name and the actual codes right under the name of code then click "Add Codes". Do that for every code, then click the little check box to enable them, then click Generate GCT.

I am going to try this in Nintendont soon, but I thought I would let you know about this as soon as possible.

in case you didnt know, I have a guide up for this for over 5 years now here on gbatemp.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/use-gamecube-cheats-with-nintendont-dios-mios-etc.313218/
also some cheats are just written incredibly hardcoded and can just break in nintendont since the memory layout slightly changes from an actual gamecube to do all the patching required to get a game running at all, really the only thing you could do is to fully RE what the cheat does and convert it over to the changed memory locations.

I have tried everything. The codes I got were not from action replay or anything like that, they were from here on GBATemp, from someone that converted them to use with Nintendont. So they "should" work fine, but I can't be sure that the codes are not the problem.

I have tried putting the gct file in the game folder with the ISO and naming it game.gct, I tried that with Cheat Path on and off.
I have tried putting the gct file in the codes folder outside of the games folder, named the GameID6 (which is GGSEA4.gct) i tried that with cheat path on and off.

And nothing seems to work, every time I try to load the cheat file I get a black screen when I load the game. Its very strange.

well the cheat handler itself does some memory trickery to even fit everything in (I really hacked into the low memory HARD) so that may be the problem, you should maybe start out with a really simple cheat like this one:
Have Infinite Medicine
025A1C62 00000001
and see if that one alone crashes, if it does then this may be a thing with the cheat handler and/or the fact its a 2-disc game.

so just to be sure where is the correct place to put the file and what should I name it

and 2nd the usb im using doesn't have a lot of space left could that be an issue cuz even when I put on 1 master code and inf health for a game after uncoding it and what not it still gives me the black screen and do I need the sneek folder with the two files still

Oh ok, I will try that out some time today. Thank you.

I also want to thank you for your contributions to the modding community. Without you we wouldn't have most of the modding methods we have today. So thank you.

man I did a silly mistake in 4.439, no wonder cheats were broken, with 4.440 it should work as expected again.
