It was like this for years. Stupid ass dad broke it because my little brother was yelling at me when we were taking turns on it and he wouldn't let me have a turn (my dad threw it at a wall and it snapped in half) it still powers on for a second (bottom screen) it may be out of battery.

I'm only 14 btw.

Also I don't think hinges or anything is lost or broken. I think the wires that connect the top to the bottom are just disconnected or ripped:

It's just fallen off, look up a ifixit guide and rebuild it.

That might be fixable if you reconnect the cables, but if the ribbon cable is broken, it's probably not fixable

Maybe works correctly if you connect the cable: the 3DS don't power on if any ribbon cable don't plug correctly.

But the picture I just posted.. there's a broken wire. What was it? Will it prevent it from working?

I can not see the wire correctly ...

The 3 ribbon cable that are not plugged are the most difficult connection, be very careful, if you bend the cable too much, you will break it:

You must connect it correctly:

And I assume the white line in one of my cables in my pic (look closely) means its broken..?

You only need a precision tweezers for connect the 3 flex wire. I recommend this guide instead of the other because this show the 3 flex wire connection that you need.

No, that cable is bent for that part:

I couldn't say why, but there is what seems to be a very irregular amount of "my parents are terrible" stories I've come across on this site. Surely parents mistreating their children is not the norm, or so I'd like to believe.

To make them feel better about themselves duh lmao

Well, I'm not confused as to why someone would post about it, just why there seem to be such a disproportionate amount of unpleasant people making parents out of themselves and doing mean things to their kids.

Unless you mean to imply some people are lying about having unfair parents to feel good about themselves? In which case, I don't really see how that would do that.

I mean as in parents mistreating their kid(s) to make them feel better about themselves

Sure, sure, I know of a lot of reasons and impulses behind that kind of behavior, but my hangup was the apparent density of those kinds of parents mentioned in posts on this site. I feel like I'm harping on about this for longer than I should have. I meant it as a passing comment, not to try and derail the topic.

The ribbon cables actually look fine, but you won't know for sure until you put everything together to check, more than likely though the antenna cable is broken. You can get away without fixing it but the WiFi range will be terrible, a new antenna is cheap but a pain to replace.

Check iFixit for all the info you need, and see for yourself if you want to attempt to fix it.
