I like cats because:
 • if a cat loves you, you deserve it (a dog will love you even if you're an evil human being)
 • Cats smell nice without needing baths
 • You don't get dirty greasy hands after patting a cat
 • Cats have less expensive vet bills
 • Cats live longer (compared to medium and large dogs)
 • Cats feel nice on your lap - a dog on your lap is a mess of pointy elbows and claws and wet tongues and noses
 • It's pleasant to pat a cat unlike getting guilt tripped by dogs
 • When a cat asks you for attention you feel honoured not annoyed
 • You don't need expensive fencing to keep a cat
 • A cat can't maul and kill people
 • you don't need to be afraid to approach a strange cat and pat it
 • Cats don't make noise all through the night and keep your neighbours awake
Acknowledged benefits of dogs over cats:
 • You can teach a dog tricks or perform sport like flyball or agility
 • A big dog in your front yard will help deter burglars
 • You can take a dog on outings

Because most of them run away if you approach them :P

It won't keep your neighbors up, but sometimes they do make noise in during the night. Examples from two different cats:
- One cat would sometimes caterwaul at night. This only happened when a certain toy was within reach, so the solution was to hide it.
- Another cat one time discovered how to open cabinet doors, so she of course had to try opening all the cabinet doors.

I feel like this post is kind of one sided but eh whatever.
I would like to add a few things to the dog list though.:creep:
 • When you come home from work, your dog will almost allays run up and greet you with affection.
 • They let you know when someone is close to your house without the person needing to ring the doorbell. (Yes, it can be annoying as well as useful)
 • Dogs are more sociable. So when you have company and they have small children, the dog will/can keep the children busy.
 • Dogs can be used for hunting. (I don't hunt, but because i live in the south, i know a lot of people who do)
 • From personal experiences, cat scratches can be very pretty bad as far as getting a disease from them. This happened to my sister.
But ya, those are my two cents ;)

Quantumcat,

I respect your opinion. Both cats and dogs are clean no matter what. I like dogs because dogs like to be with you everywhere. Cats are independent and some cats liked to be with you but most cats do not.

For myself, I love dogs more than cats but I treat both equal with love and respect. Two cat I really like so much is... Sphynx (Beers from Dragon Ball Super, anyone?:)) and Manx. Sphynx, to me, is so beautiful and so nice skin with no hairy on it. Manx, to me, is smooth and love to swim in the water. Thats what I like since I am swimmer and I love in the water every minute! Again, dogs are number one for me:

Playful
running around with me
Swimming with me
licking on my face
easy to train and tricks
Poop outside and picking it up yourself is less smelly and more responsible

Cat:

Lazy
Sleep a lot
hate swimming in the water (rare cat like to swim like Manx, Japanese bobtail, Turkish Angora, Bengal, and some)
poop in the liter smell bad
cats hunts small animals that are endangers
cats jump around in the kitchen, table, and etc can make a mess and hairy on things

Quantumcat,

please.. dogs and cats have a pros and cons. So people have their own preference for dogs and cats, you silly. You are telling the negative. Come on, if you love cats more than dogs then keep it to yourself and respect one another rather than tell them that your cats are better than dogs.

Both are best animals but depending on what people are looking for like I said above about liking and hating. Thats all.

1. Cats run up to me legs to greet me, Lenin does and Lady usually strolls in to greet me.
2. Cats also do that as they spend a lot of time watching out the windows.
3. I dun have people waltzing in and out of me house as I prefer to keep them out.
I have the saying in who comes and goes in me home so feel honoured of I let you stay
4. People hunted for centuries without dogs, people that hunt with dogs are likely to shoot their own mutts.
5. A cat doesn't scratch for no reason, your sister prolly did something to the cat or the cat just hated her.

I guess iv'e had some bad experience with cats then. Most of them (I have met) just stay away from strangers and sometimes avoid their own families entirely. The kittens i have met over the years are very sociable but typically the older ones seclude themselves. I don't hate cats by any means, the other day i was at a friends house and his roomates cat enjoyed my company.
As for point 4, yes that is true but people do use them today however. :)

Yeah, perhaps bad experience.
My stereotypical old lonely aunt has a lot of cats, with diverse personalities, I must say that most of them even old ones really like to be petted and enjoy spending time with visitors.

Never though about it, but the poor little things loves to go outside and I think it would die of a cold.

Shave a poodle cut?
Knit sweaters for them like those French dames ;p

I've had Lenin shaved a few times (only small patches cus surgeries) and can tell it's an unsightly see.
Poor sod.

There's little hunting here in Europe so eh.
I can get me chicken at the grocery store and I'm fine with it.

I've rescued one of me cats from some slut who abandoned her and let her get abused by her cat hating boyfriend.
After only 3 weeks, that can saw me as her god.
It always stayed close to me, 24/7 was laying next to me, walked with me when I went to the lav.
Stupid cat stood between the door a few times cus it had the urge to follow me.

I grew up with a dog but always loved cats.
Somehow, every cat loves me.
