I am currently waiting for a "new" 3ds sitting on 10.x.x.x E firmware to arrive in the mail over the next couple of days. I was wondering what people thing is the current best setup to have in regards to CFW &/or Flashcards.

My plan
1. Purchase a 64gb microSD card + reader
2. Follow 3ds.guide to install Luma3ds CFW + homebrew/freeshop etc.
3. Install emulators NES/SNES/GBA if possible

Other Questions
1. Is there much to using a 64gb microSD, do I just plug it in and the 3ds adds the files that are required before I attempt a CFW install?
2. Does the Luma3ds CFW support DS roms or do you have to get a Flashcard / Inject VC for this?
3. Is there anything else cool that I am missing from my plan?

NOTE: The modding part of this, is basically just for interest sake, then end game is so my son can use it without needing to use my game carts / cards.

1. Just follow the Guide. Format it FAT32, 32k cluster.
2. You need a flashcart. There is homebrew, but it's not worth mentioning as you won't be able to playing anything with it. Get a DS flashcart.
3. Stickers.

Suggested to buy from GBATemp sponsor - http://www.nds-card.com/ProShow.asp?ProID=149

Ok so I purchased from the sponsored site the recommended card.

I can't be the first to think that was the most dodgiest internet purchase I have ever done.

The site has so many security issues with unprotected passwords and stuff, having to pay via paypal in a very dodgy way (to a personal account instead of a business and no notes).

Anywhere you can buy a flashcart seems sketchy. Try not to feel guilty or shamed. Lol. Stick with your plan. A 64gb card will be just fine and they are relatively cheap. For you flashcart you just ordered, a 4 or 8gb card would be perfect (I have and 8gb). Nds roms are around 20-30 megs each. Only few are over 100mb or more.

I am probably not entitled to an opinion here, but it was definitely surprising that they are the recommended place to purchase. I really only went through with it because I wanted to support this site (as I have been using it for quite sometime). I just have never had so many alarm bells ring when going through that transaction.

Smaller new 3ds is much nicer than XL.

I did end up getting the smaller new 3ds mainly because it will be for my son (he is 3 atm) and the size would suit him better. Also I have a new 3ds XL and I am a game collector so I just play the originals on mine. This is much less about piracy and more about interest.

Here is an old picture of my collection. (A few more things have been added since)

They do it this way because paypal has banned the sale of flashcarts with their service. If they are found out, their account would be banned, which causes them a lot of headache.

Yeah fair enough. They could at least have SSL on their website so you could pay via credit card with at least some layer of security.

Since there seems to be an update on the compatible versions (11.3), so I bother trying to update my current "new" 3ds XL that is on 11.3?

There reason I ask is I am still waiting on my n3ds in the mail along with my updates microSD (32gb).

Can I just update my 11.3 on the standard storage that comes with it and then add a larger storage in later, or do I need to be using the SD I plan on using during the CFW process?
