Figured I'd post this here in case it hasn't been tested:

So, I wanted to set up VOEZ in a way that I could record it using my Elgato... Though, the problem is that title is touch-screen only, and therefore cannot be played from the dock. (No way to use touchscreen)

I tried the following workaround:

USB-C extender (F->M) plugged into where the Switch would normally connect to the dock, and then connected that to the Switch. Here's what it looked like:

Which gave me the following results:
Touch screen is still disabled
Touch screen is black (off)
Game displays "This game is only played in handheld mode"
Joycons attached to tablet are inoperable until detached.

So, tl;dr:
Unless there is a way to pass the video signal to the HDMI output without the Switch thinking it's docked, no streaming/recording touchscreen only games. RIP my dream of streaming VOEZ and other touch titles...

Just grab a good camera and it will not make a difference.
expect for crappy audio quality and nokia-quality recording.

Lets hope for a capture card or nintendo actually living up to their word saying switch would get on console recording.
Maybe they meant the capture button for pictures and didn't fully understand people want to capture video. I think what we see now is all were gonna get, no cloud saves or anything just "waiting" to show up someday.

get a tripod
get a camera that can take videos that fits on tripod
setup the switch so it is in view of camera and you can paly it
then record your game-paly

video cap(with the cap button) is coming at some point (nintendo said it will happen)

Switch is capable of grabbing video. They just need to notice that.

I think the issue on Nintendo's end is that the system isn't super powerful tbh, and constantly being ready to record gameplay (like the Xbox and PS4) can be a bit intensive. Adding the feature in would likely prevent them from doing something else later (like add in emulation support for Virtual Console) and that's why the held off. The screenshot thing is easy, the video is a different ball game.

If we do get it, it'll be late in the console's lifespan, and it will likely be one of the last features to be implemented.

What the Switch is capable of and what Nintendo will do are two drastically different things.

They did say they would add video capture in a later update. Maybe they haven't finished it yet.

I find it odd a game would have forced touch screen on a console that can be docked like this. Interesting

I'll give the benefit of the doubt for sure but I'm not gonna let them run away with my imagination on it either.

I wonder how much longer they intend to not have media service streaming (Netflix, Hulu+, Amazon Video) and internet browsing. Those feel like things that should inherently be ready on a given system. They aren't brand new concepts that have never before been used and need to be tested (maybe the browser so they don't give homebrew access again, idk)

At this rate I think your better off using a video camera with some sort of brace to keep the system and camera focused and not shaky. I've seen people do so for the 3DS to great success.

Not everyone uses these services. Most of them are geo-locked anyways.
I don't use them either but it just seems like the most barebones of basic things for any electronic to have.

I guess my complaints are void seeing how fast the Switch is currently selling.

They've actually stated that video recording will be coming in a few future update.

Nice research, even though it seemed kinda obvious, but how about trying to record VOEZ on/from a Smartphone rather than from a Switch, since it's a smartphone game as well?

I tried once to record Voez with a smartphone.
You don't realize that you can't hear anything while recording with sound, right?
So this defeats whole purpose since Voez is a rhythm game.

You're right. I don't realize that at all, since I don't have that problem with my phone. I don't know how you try to record footage from your phone, though.
