So I'm going to freshly install homebrew and a CFW with coldboot I want to know what's the difference between using HaxhiFW coldboot and mochacfw coldboot? Which one is better? I'll mainly be downloading games into a portable hard drive and playing online

Umm mocha coldboot? You load mocha from homebrew, mocha is the poverty version of cfw, since you need to buy a NDS vc game from eshop to use haxchi :P

HAXCHI require NDC VC game bought from eshop

MOCHA Loaded by web browser exploit (Loadiine.ovh) or some other similar

Mocha is CFW mainly for playing out of region games. (there may be other features, someone else can say. I think backing up your nand incase of brick and maybe more). Haxchi makes it where you don't need to use the internet browser to get to Homebrew channel. You can install in region games to usb/internal without either Mocha Haxchi. (Brazilian method)

I only use Mocha for Zelda BOTW because i got ahold of the European version before the US version came out and wanted to keep the save and didn't want to mess with re-downloading the US version and converting the save. I still have some Loadiine games so I use Haxchi to launch Homebrew Channel to get to Loadiine.

Haxchi supports region free.....

I already have a game for the haxchi exploit :) just wondering the difference between these two
They are basically the same, haxchi is cfw itself, it allows for loading unsigned content like homebrew channel, or any installed games by brazil method. Mocha is just used instead if you don't have haxchi, they both do the same stuff. One requires a paid NDS game and the other is free by web browser exploit which has less than 100% success rate, compared to haxchi. Once again, mocha is the poverty version cfw. :P

But you do need haxchi for coldboot i assume, i don't use cold boot cause i rather not deal with the long process of dumping a 32GB nand into a 64GB or higher sd card and if anything happens to sd card have to do it all over again, just be careful like me. Install from trusted sources and maybe install to usb storage first, at least is won't harm nand storage at all.

DON'T OVERWRITE CBHC INSTALLATION UNTIL YOU UNINSTALLED IT.
HaxchiFW is CBHC CFW. Just set CBHC to Autoboot to sysmenu and you're automatically in CBHC CFW

mocha was always and only ever a CFW , Haxchi evolved into being a CFW as it began as an exploit , therefor it having both features is deemed the better option.

Regarding on what those two offer (region patches, ftpiiu everywhere) they are the same (at least for the end user) for sysNAND users.
Haxchi doesn't need to load a homebrew in order to apply patches (Mocha, IOSUhax (fw.img) or simple signature patcher are all homebrews). It does it straight if you have "sysmenu" as an option for a button or the default value in your Haxchi config.txt before installing.
Mocha on the other hand is the ultimate CFW for redNAND users.
And (this should be mentioned as well) Mocha will become very relevant when the FAT32 USB feature is finished.
There's already a compiled version where a few things are working. However until someone (Dimok?) writes a new FAT driver from scratch it would have very bad loading times (like with Loadiine from SD).

So ...

Haxchi CFW
  • fastest CFW as no homebrew CFW (Mocha, IOSUhax) needs to be loaded
Mocha CFW
  • good for redNAND users
  • newest build has ability to have Wii U games on FAT32 USB
-> yes, it could be the same HDD where all your vWii related stuff (Wii games, GC games) is on
    -> still very slow

Wait, I've been using mocha cfw for a while a with CBHC. Haxchi has it's own cfw now? And how would you be able to get a coldboot without a ds vc game?

There's no coldboot without a game.
I dunno how it is with CBHC but if it's the same as with "normal" Haxchi just put "sysmenu" in the config.txt before installing.
I put it to default:
Code:
default=sysmenu

Then why would mocha be considered not as good as haxchi? Mocha has way more features and boots just as fast.

Which (for end users relevant) features are you speaking of?
I named the two benefits (redNAND and FAT32).
If you use one of them: Mocha is the cup of sweet coffee you need.
If not: Haxchi should be a bit faster, even if it's just a second or something.

Also Mocha combined with CBHC boots very slow as far as I remember.

Does regular sysnand cfw have regionfree?

Yes. Haxchi's sysnand is Haxchi CFW with signature and region patches. Just like Mocha. :)
Also ftpiiu everywhere is working (which is not with simple signature patcher by the way).
Custom channels like the Homebrew Launcher Channel can be launched as well.

It is much slower.
Anyway, there's no real point in Mocha if you have Haxchi/CBHC, unless you really want the broken FAT32 HDD support or redNAND.
Not that there's anything wrong with using it either.

I hope one day that FAT32 thing will be working superb and that it either gets integrated into Haxchi as well or that Haxchi and Mocha are going to fuse. :D

Agreed. It would be the perfect replacement for Loadiine. I don't want to use two USB HDDs with Y-cables taking up all the ports.

Yep. I'm going to order that GC Controller USB thing to connect 4 GC Controllers to the Wii U (thanks to HID to VPAD) which will spam my two front USB ports. Can't wait for a superb FAT32 solution.
