Hello everyone! In a few days, I will be purchasing my Switch along with Breath of the Wild, and I'm having a huge problem making a choice. Now, I think that the blue joycons look beautiful with the console, but I know I would enjoy using the pro controller once Splatoon 2 is released. I need you lovely Tempers to tell me what the better choice would be! Joycons or Pro Controller?

(I'm going to buy the Neon Switch, so if I DO get the joycons, I can get the neon set, and have two blue, and two red.)

deff the pro con nothing else compares playing zelda with it.

tried the joycons it sux trying to push the z buttons damn things are too small. than you got the sync issues.

tried the joycon grip holding it is pretty uncomfortable after a while.

pro con = WIN

feels good my hands have prob been sweaty too but you don't even notice it. you can get a real good grip on the pro con.
the joycons are hard to keep a grip on i'm sure they will be fine with other games that they were designed for (1-2) and in portable mode but for zelda playing on the TV you deff want the PC.

Alright! Thanks for letting me know! Definitely will keep this in mind. I won't really be playing with people for awhile, so I don't really NEED the extra controllers anyways!

The dpad is a little bit stiff and the 4 menu buttons are a little too close together compared to the joycon grip controller.
Also it's a little bulky and heavy and my palms get hot with it

Despite all this, it's a really high-quality feeling controller and the battery life is great. Just nit-picking.

also the pc has motion controls so you can aim your bow in botw as well as do some motion puzzles even a way to cheat a few of them :P
That gets me hyped up! I've played BotW for about an hour with joycons at the game store we have here, but I made myself stop because I want to play the game on my own console!

Hm... How hot do your palms get? I don't want it to be TOO uncomfortable. I don't like my hands feeling all sticky and slippery on the controller. Whatever choice I do make, it will be okay because later I will get one or the other controller.

They get hot enough to get slightly moist. It doesn't have anything to do with the controller radiating heat or anything, I think it's just the way it fits and its weight. I don't recall having this issue with any other controller, PS4, PS3, X1, or otherwise.

That said, it's bearable and there's no slippage. And it's got major pluses like perfect sticks and face buttons.

the two handles actually have tiny little grooves in them to prevent slippage.
It sounds like it would be really nice! Two votes on the pro controller! I guess that's what I'll be going for! Thanks a bunch you two!

The joycons are not great in the controller dock with the switch, not even when they're working. And I had tons of times that they didn't, because my foot/leg was between the joycon and the switch.
Since the buttons/pads are all aligned in a straight line on the joycons, and the joycon dock docks them in a straight line as well, it's not ergonomic for your hands.

The pro controller on the other hand is really nice, I've had zero issues with it, and it lays in your hands nicely.

Get the pro controller!

Pro Controller all the way.
I've played a lot with both joycon and Pro Controller.
The Pro Controller is just more comfortable and a better input device for gaming.

Just from my experience, playing Fast RMX in your average race I go from 9th position using the joycons, to 1st position with the Pro Controller.
For me, it is a big difference regarding how well I can play.

both of which work well in potplayer

amd is a bit cheaper though
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Cheaper and they are less stingy with the RAM not a big issue now but I can imagine in a yard or two things might be different

    Year not yard lol

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow
