Hello
Ive been using my 3ds and is familiar with that scene.
I actually never played wii U but I can get one pretty cheap and modding it sounds sweet.

What im wondering is which guide should I follow, and what do I want to install etc?

Theres plenty of guides but I want to make sure I get the most current and everything else that I might want.
As im new to the whole wii u scene, but its gonna be interesting.

not everyone wants to spend money on haxchi, i'm sick of seeing people pushing haxchi down people's throats instead of showing them the cheapest and free option that is the browser

Weather people want a free option or a cheap option, is up to them, but i do agree, not to shove it in people face. At least acknowledge all options available to the person. Not try to outplay the other. They both work and is fine to use either. The fact remains that more people would use one over other doesn't make it better, just preferred.

Well i do not mind spending a little or nothing at all, whichever is most useful tbh.
My goal is running games through usb, could that be done with the browser method?

Also sysNAND backup/restore is also nice if it exists, :)

browser method lets you do everything, its just that haxchi is way more convenient

okay so its basicly the same but haxchi is easier to use once installed if im correct?

Atleast I got a 64gb sd card so thats no problem. :)
Which was needed for some install right?
I planning on using an 32gb sd later.
Install the games on a 64gb usb 3.0 usb pen.
Should be plenty enough right?

Im just new and dont wanna mess up thats why im asking.
Maybe ill stick to the loader if there isnt a big difference from haxchi that would be nice to have,

Correct. Since you're previously using 3ds, the difference is kind of like browserhax vs homemenuhax (not exactly like that but you get the point)

32GB sd card is huge if you want to just install games to usb
64GB usb is enough for some games

Haxchi lets you access HBL locally. So you don't even have to be online.

Hm not sure, as I said im entirely new to the system, and usb loading is usally the fastest unless you install it right on the nand. Which I dont really know how it works yet. not entirely. But you get me, I just want to get started and I thought usb was the way to go.

I dont need to be online all the time without haxchi right? Or do i? if not thats not any problem.

Without haxchi you need to load a webpage
Be it in the internet or you host it yourself, that's up to you

Hello again

A little update.

I went and bought a used but in pristine condition, a zelda wii u for a bargain of a price! :D
Thank you all for your efforts and for explainning each method of entry and usage.

I think i probably will go with haxchi since im used to the easiness of a CFW since I use 3ds I got all games right on the home menu.
it seems risky if you add in mind further updates might come to install coldboot. So i will probably stick with normal haxchi in the start.

I have a few questions though.

1. Since I have a 32gb console, do I need to use 64gb sd for installing?
2. I will use MattKimura's guide. Should I use the files he provides in his thread or does the rikimax25 download which you pointed me to give you all the files that I will need? Since there probably more stuff in that pack that I will want? like vwii?(havnt read up on in yet though)

Anything particular I should think about or do, or in a certain order or fashion?

Which controllers is worth getting btw?
Ordinary wii remote ofc,
But I guess a pro controller is preffered? What do you guys think, im probably gonna play some older then wii u games aswell.

Little OT but fun story.
Went to local gamestop to get some controllers. Was a really nice guy there whom was impressed and glad for me for the bargain, i think he wanted to help me protect it, which I do want ofc.(he plays wii u himself aparantly)

So he gave me, an original nintendo coverplate pack with stylus and cleaning towel worth 7$ for FREE! Damn I got glad because I even asked for one to buy before he gave it to me, was a really nive surprise and a good way to when im about to start. :)

He even advised me not to get their controllers as their was very expensive. Although he tried to tempt me buying the new zelda, I dont mind paying for games that I will probably love but cmon 83$USD for the game! Too bad I already had it at home..lol

TBH im not really sure if im entering the wii u scene way too late or that I got one at just the right time! :)
Any thoughts? :)

Thanks all for your help!

You don't need 64GB SDCard at all. Ignore redNAND step at all cost unless you want to waste your SDCard space and hope it doesn't corrupt itself.
I used myself Kafluke's and FilmFlam69 guide and those are very noob friendly, don't follow video tutorials.
Download stuff from threads posted here. You don't want outdated HBL v1.2 on your SDCard.
You can download homebrew here: wiiubru.com/appstore
It's matter of preference but you still need Wii U Gamepad to do anything. Also, get a Pro Controller.

If you want Haxchi, you need to have legit DS VC game. [Installed from eShop]
Goodluck i guess.

you only need hb launcher, to load wupinstaller and install your games to the system menu
the only games you'll need to load with mocha are vc and games with dlc installed
haxchi is just a fancy and expensive way of loading the homebrew launcher
visiting (loadiine.ovh) and set it to autoload the page is exactly the same thing, only difference is that it requires an online connection

That´s the thing, sometimes im out of reach of the internet, so using haxchi seems handy.
Someone said you could emulate the site yourself?
I guess ill find a guide here somewhere how to do that, so I can load loadiine even if im not online.

And yeah ill pick up a cheap wii controller+nunchuck and a pro controller. Ill try out my new zelda controller until they arrive, feels kinda good in your hand tbh. Nice grip, very lightweighted and it seems like a good relaxing control. (I got big hands so I reach everything without a hazzle and can rest my tips quite nicely. :)
Havnt tried it out yet, ill probably take a look at it tomorrow.

thx guys
