Hello guys,
I just installed a9lh on an old 3ds xl. When I boot, I get a black screen.
I have tried deleting the luma config file, booting without a game cartridge, deleting extdata, trying to go into recovery mode with and without the sd card inserted, and going into luma payloads (decypt9 and hourglass9)

Any help? Thanks in advance.

Do you have "arm9loaderhax.bin" in the root of your SD card?
Would payload chaining work without it? He said he tried using Decrypt9 and Hourglass.... I was gonna ask the same but figured no payloads would load if it was missing, unless he was using them from the root renamed to "arm9loaderhax.bin".

Ohhh~ I just normally go with the normal troubleshooting with this.

Quick question does the system make a small rattling noise when you shake it next to your ear? My system randomly stopped working one day, but I could still boot into A9LH payloads. My issue turned out to be a hardware issue

maybe he just needs to re-install the files encase they were corrupted or something (just a guess)
I mean, he could try a few things but he might not have to. It depends on what files he has, if his SD card has bad sectors (Check here: https://3ds.guide/h2testw-(windows)) if his files are corrupted, if he's using incompatible programs, etc etc etc. There is just too much that it COULD be without him answering to offer any help.

Yeah I was at first, then saw he tried others and thought for a second Lol. People always tend to forget/deny their hardware can break as well, "It worked yesterday!"

Mine actually was working the day before and up until I turned off the system. This is also kind of cool to think about because it means A9LH loads even before most of the hardware has time to start working.

OK, right now I'm trying H2testw.

Edit: It says there's nothing wrong. I don't think it's a bad file, because when I turn the ds on without the sd card, the light just stays blue. Since the ds is at firmware 2.x, I heard on the troubleshooting section of the guide that recovery mode wouldn't work, and it didn't. I also don't think it's the hardware (but who knows) because the ds was working less than a minute ago.

Why are you still on 2.1?

You said you've tried going into luma payloads but you didn't mention whether you got to them or not. If you can get into Hourglass9 or D9 then you should've restored your NAND backup. That'd be the first thing to try and most likely would fix your issue.

Thanks for everyone's replies. The reason I am on 2.1 is because I'm using safehax/fasthax to get A9LH. I'm going to try replacing arm9loaderhax.bin with the decrypt9 payload. (I can't get into decrypt9) My question is: why doesn't the 3ds instantly turn off without the SD card?

Yes, but it's not turning off instantly without the SD card, and that's the weird thing.

Your answer makes no sense. Safehax/fasthax are used on higher FW's so that you can downgrade your system. You are on 2.1 so what does safe/fasthax have anything to do with this?

So let me get this straight .. With or without SD card you get nothing but a black screen? If payloads do not work either to me it sounds like a brick and that A9LH was not installed or is what bricked the system.

My god if the bin file is in the ctrnand then you won't need a SD card to boot into your system

From the sound of it he hasn't even installed A9LH / is maybe bricked. Wtf are you talking about? How could he have arm9loaderhax.bin in his ctrnand when he's on 2.1? He doesn't even have FBI yet because he's only half way done with the guide.

By any chance, was there an OTP.bin inside the a9lh folder when you installed your a9lh? Did you get all the files from the official guide?
This is n3ds or o3ds? If you got to 2.1 you may need to take the sd card out for the system to load the first time, but you say you cannot even get to payloads, and a solid blue light is not a good sign.

Ok, here's what happened. I did the ctrnand transfer at 11.2, which downgraded me to 2.1. I went into safe a9lh installer, installed a9lh, then I get a black screen at boot.

woops sorry I didn't even know I assumed because the way I took it he already had cfw and such but had a problem and wanted to re-install so sorry for misunderstanding jfc
