I'd probably prefer a cloth or something as well, though that type of foam isn't the worst idea it's far from ideal. But hey, it's something I guess.

I think I found it. https://www.amazon.com/Kimberly-Clark-Kimtech-Kimwipes-Delicate-Disposable/dp/B00RORBXA8

This looks like it would work well.

I personally think Nintendo should've done something different with the Dock....
You know they'll fix it in a revision. A v2 of the tablet is inevitable. Technology is improving every year.. Plus we may see a 5 hour minimum later on? Wishful thinking..

You know, those microfiber pouches you can buy? Why not cut one of those in the middle and put it over one side of the Switch?

Any type of cloth like substance used will work great initially. The problem arrises when that cloth and grit eventually combine. If that grit is harder than the screen, it will scratch. At least that's what science tells us.

The problem is the dock design period.

Plastic on plastic and it appears to be trapping heat rather that disapating it. Plastic dock with glass screen would have been better but would not have solved the heat issue.

The tablet isn't even the problem, it's the dock itself IMO

Yes, I hope for a third party open design. It would be easier just to dock it "naked" and have the ports behind it.

Yeah, I completely forgot to add that to my post. Lol... But a new dock will come.
That dock is the main reason I didn't even get the Switch, why didn't they just go for Custom USB C hub for the bottom that includes USB and HDMI outputs? That would have worked just as good, it may not look as good though....

sand down the parts you want to attach it to so that it sticks better and doesn't squeeze the console. :)

Wondering if a 3rd party dock will come soon enough. Hm. It's not proprietary... So it shouldn't be a problem. I use it portable 90% of the time. Got a screen protector so I'm not too worried about the dock.

The only problem is that eventually, there may be games that only play well in Docked mode (due to the processor boost while in docked mode).

Is the boost that significant that playing undocked will cause problems?

Just cut the front off the dock and use it horizontally for minimal effort. OR Pull the guts out and put the ports in a project box or maybe someone can 3D print a custom box and just plug the Switch into the USB C connection.

Portable travel dock Nintendo refuses to make to house their DRM Dongle.

I don't know if the existing USB C make from the bottom of the dock can be used or how "custom" that connector is on the PCB.

So I went to the grocery store to do some light shopping and I thought to myself "What about Moleskin?". I found some Dr Scholl's Moleskin that's soft. I'll try it.

I just bought a samsung tv today that was wrapped in the white crap that the 3ds is wrapped in. I can't see it being that bad if samsung uses it on their tv screens. It don't look very durable though.

A word of caution on moleskin. As a Scoutleader I use this stuff frequently on hikes and the adhesive is very strong. Recall the issues and recall of skins by dbrand due to adhesive damage. Obviously the chemical properties of the particular adhesive used make a difference. It may be very difficult to remove from the narrow confines of that slot.
