No, it is natively running wii mode which is seminatively running gamecube games (some thing are emulated but most is natively)
Alright, I think I get it. So stuff like Nintendont is just running backups and an emulator is a system's bios that you use to play games?

The only emulation that is made on the Wii U is other syscalls to processes, since it isn't official Wii hardware so it's just redirected to the right parts of the system.

Aka. It's doing it right

Yeah, while it is a somewhat laggy in some places in certain games, it is pretty playable overall (assuming that the specs of the Nintendo Switch are similar to the Shield TV)

Although I do wonder if Wii games would not be a possibility considering the performance in Sonic Colors (if you ignore the controller issues).

Wii-U has a full blown wii system built into it (the vWii). This includes the entirety of the gamecube mode, even though it's not actually used in any official capacity. All it's doing is running games the same way it does on the gamecube. Nintendon't effectively does the same thing, but without actually checking the disc drive.

I know that, that's pretty much what I said about nintendont. Was what I said about emulators right though?

Lol guys, even Wii U was capable of Gamecube VC. So yes, it's definitely feasible for Switch.

To be fair the Wii U had the gift of native loading on its side which it may very well had been using there. The Switch has no such advantage so it's not certain, although I imagine since it's at least more powerful than the Wii U it should be capable of at least running Gamecube games in a playable state, albeit using brute force of the system instead.

The hardware's probably capable, but actually porting Dolphin to the Switch really isn't in the realm of possibility at the moment. If we had a CFW that offered the same level of hardware access as Android and a homebrew SDK robust enough (with good GPU support), it might not be entirely impossible to get something like 30FPS at native resolution in most games. Nintendo could probably come up with something better, but given that they still won't do SNES emulation on old 3DS models, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Well, I feel like it'll be a lot like with the Wii U. I'm pretty sure that since the Wii U can emulate Game Cube games then the Switch will be able to as well. Of course, I'm not 100% sure if that'll be the case because the Wii U was able to emulate the Wii hardware making Game Cube games playable so idk.
I don't know much about how hardware works.

That's virtualization versus emulation. vWii uses hardware, emulation is software.

Different systems entirely. Not to mention, Dolphin is running much better than PCSX2. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Also, PCSX2 on Tegra... Hmm
To the first part, obviously. To the second, Um, no? LOL. What do you mean "Much better"? PCSX2 has much better compat., and is leagues easier to emulate.

Nintendo really makes weird decisions when it comes to Virtual Consoles. No Gameboy, Gameboy color, or GameCube virtual consoles games for the Wii U. Zero effort for the GBA virtual console games for the 3DS after the ambassador thing.

And then there is the other question of why some games are not released on the Wii U virtual console, like why is there no original, not a spinoff, Pokemon game on any of the Wii U's virtual console platforms.
