Is it legal to dump my carts to .CIA, and copy that file and install it onto another 3DS I own? As far as I know it isn't illegally uploading or downloading, and it's not freeShop.
That doesn't really make sense though. So does that mean it's illegal to make backups too? It's the same as using a backup of a game if your console breaks, so what's the big deal?Legal, not really. Are they going to go after you? No.
If you don't upload it, they won't go after you. For starters, it's not really possible for them to know you did it, unless you upload and include a picture of your face and recipe.
The legality of making your own backups seems to be literally all over the place and be best described as, "Just don't be the one uploading the games."That doesn't really make sense though. So backing the games up is illegal? The legality of making your own backups seems to be literally all over the place and be best described as, "Just don't be the one uploading the games."
If you backup your own games, no one cares. If you give someone else those backups, that's technically against the law.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It really depends on where you live. Copyright laws are a muddy area with grey zones all over the place. So backing the games up is illegal?
Most places will allow you to have a backup of your media and use that instead of the original. Likewise having a cart and installing it as a CIA before sticking the cart in a drawer would fall under "format shifting" provisions. So backing the games up is illegal?
