Before everyone is quick to just tell op "USE CFW GET VC INJECTIONS" can you least answer his question first? He ask a question maybe perhaps he has reasons, maybe he can't use cfw, maybe he doesn't want injections, maybe he just want status update on homebrew situation. Yes we know more prefered solutions exist but again is only for CFW users, homebrew can be used by everyone. While a lot safer also. I know you all wanna help, but you can least try to answer the question first before telling him your obvious answers that you know will be repeated to no end.
well at least we got to the awnser of what he has for homebrew(userland, a9lh, ect.). we can work better with this now.

OP, w/o CFW access (i assume your only working N3DS is on 11.3 before you learned you could get to A9LH from 11.2) Performance is low in BlargSnes/any snes retroarch cores. as would mGBA (they depend on "Dynarec" for much better performance which we can only get w/ a CFW)

blargsnes yes was developed around before the n3DS was a thing but anything for an o3DS will run on an n3DS but better. (faster CPU, More ram, additional cpu Cache.) so nothing is really O3DS Exclusive. if an exploit comes along in 11.3 or whatever is in the future, VC Injects will be better on SNES front, GBA however is a mixed handbag, the gba emulators have some better compatibility than the GBA VC vs a lil lower performance. its a trade off really . (some games that dont actually work in the agbfirm, may work in an emulator but cant save compared or doesn't have a working rtc. and visa versa. try to understand Nintendo wants us to forget about AGBFIRM/the GBA Ambassador games as it was only a reward for those who took a leap of faith on launch 3DS models for the first i think 6months/year?)

if for now you need SNES on the go, Emulators for smartphones would be better (snes emulators for PSP never really went far and have alot of compatibility issues.[ex. Earthbound's copy protection is set off in it.]) if you want GBA on the go, a used PSP or again GBA Emulator on a smartphone (would still be cheaper to get a used psp than a GBASP+ say an ezflash V or Supercard) i know it maynot be what you want but its your options untill you get an Exploitable N3DSto use CFW or something comes out for 11.3

Just go with VC, unless you plan to play like 200 games or use emulator magic like save states...
I played several gba games with VC and works perfectly...

I heard some folks saying gba vc is not emulation since the console has the gba hardware, but I don't kite believe this...
It's like an hypervisor, the 3ds has some of the GBA hardware, but not everything, well, like an hybrid. Anyway the accuracy is great, it's just like an original GBA.

In the last Months the Snes9x for 3ds is coming very good on O3ds and N3ds, but GBA does nothing...
Is GBA harder for CPU then SNES?
when you run gba via VC that runs on the built-in GBA hardware which means that its hardware emulation, which has (close to) perfect emulation. why dont you go and try it out?

The GBA emu, as far as I'm aware, is still utilizing software rendering (using the CPU), whereas the SNES emu uses the GPU to render. It relieves quite a load from the CPU, allowing the CPU to do CPU stuff. Do that with the GBA emu, and it can also progress too.

But as everyone is saying, the 3DS can also handle much of the GBA library through VC injects, so that kinda holds back emu progress since they've already got access to play GBA games.

It was made with the O3DS in mind(because O3DSes didn't have that great of compatibility like N3DSes had with VC injects) but it works on a N3DS as well, better in fact.

Next time try reading it instead of just looking at the title of the post. If you had, you would have seen this:

9. SA-1 (Super Mario RPG, Kirby Dreamland: slow on old 3DS. runs well on new 3DS)
10. SuperFX (Yoshi's Island: slow on old 3DS. runs well on new 3DS)
11. Runs faster on new 3DS.

While it is theoretically possible to make o3ds exclusive software, including homebrew, nobody has ever done so as there is no point especially for usermode homebrew like emulators.

They're installing A9LH so that shouldn't be an issue for them soon.

hmm, for super mario rpg, does that run faster haveing a9lh, like using the cia version?

In regards to Snes9x? No, the 3dsx variant should play everything the same speed as the CIA version.

Those games don't run "slow" on the O3DS anymore either, not quite full speed but damn near full speed(Kirby's Dreamland 3 still suffers slow downs with a busy screen but it's playable) with the latest release.

No, snes9x does not use dynarec.

Lml it is, emulation is recreating the console to run on different hardware, what the 3ds does is run it natively using its own hardware, because it hasent changed all too much since the original ds (hardware wise). This is closer to what virtual box does, it just gives compatibility.

although isnt even the ds based off of gb ircc?

You should get yourself a DSi XL, and a Supercard DSTwo. Best way to play GBA games, because GBA games will look like shit on a 3DS screen.
