Just had some bad luck here. I made it threw the 3ds guide website fine up until where I backup my otp to the pc etc. I pulled the memory card out and stuck it in my tiny usb read. apparently I stuck it in backwards. it was hard to get out. I got it but some how I scratched/ dented the back of the memory card in a small area. and my pc will not read it and the memory stick gets realy hot so I'm sure its dead somehow. I did not get a chance to back up my otp. but I do have back ups of my nand and and files9 folder.

I'm hoping I can rerun a9hl and get my otp again.

what I'm concerned about is I'm sitting here with my "new" 3ds xl opened turned off sitting next to me on firmware 2.1....... plus I know have to start a completely new memory card and have no idea what files should be on it other then the installing a9hl steps. id rather not have to go threw the guide completely again nor do I know if that's even safe

Is the N3DS without any sd card atm?

Do you have backup of the folders of your sd card(the ones which come with it).

I would leave it powered on with the carger connected if I was you, so its bassically super safe and you can get a new SD card by the morning. Then you just put all you need again for grab your otp again and keep the instalation.

Edit: Now i saw its already powered off. Leave it this way and grab a new sd card. just will need the files for the 2.1 stage again.

yeah its powered off. I went into the discord and people are trying to tell me to do the guide again. which I don't think is safe because the guide dosent start till 8.1 . and I don't think I can update from a new 3ds with out bricking.

so what your saying is put memory card in the n3ds with the a9hl and when I turn it on it should boot 2.1 then I can go to the website etc.

are there any files I need on there from before the 2.1 stage for safehax or any of the other files that's what I'm not sure about I thaught i mite be able to do a9hl but i wanted to check first.

. . . n3ds 2.1 . . . worst idea ever
even when powered off? I'm realy conserned about this one if so I'm going to have to put it on top of the fridge or something to keep it away from the kids

I always wonder if you're allowed to turn a New 3DS off when on 2.1.
I found myself on 2.1 (o3DS) already long enough when I did A9LH, let alone on a New 3DS.

not sure i haven't turned it back on from the shutdown after a9hl where you pull out the memory card to backup the otp

I don't know where the SD Card slot is on a New 3DS, seems more threads are popping up about closing the lid. Is it possible for the A9LH guide that you can directly go to the browser when on 2.1 and install A9LH and have the files you need for 2.1 before the CTRtranster?

ctr transfers been down that's how it got to 2.1 i think? I know i have backups of my nand and the file9 folder and everything i was supposed to back up until the otp file. THE MICRO SD CARD IS UNDER THE BOTTOM COVER NEXT TO THE BATTERY MY BOTTOM COVER IS ALREADY OFF
sorry for the caps

I dont have a N3DS but are u sure u need to take off the cover to access the sd card?

Anyway u cant proceed without a SD card because it will not boot until u can finish the guide and install a smaller a9lh to CTR partition(last step of the guide).

It's completely fine to turn off a N3DS on 2.1, you just can't put it in sleep mode, or update it. Technically speaking you don't really need your OTP after A9lH is already installed, which you've done. It can be used to reinstall A9LH on 9.0-9.2 if you somehow lose it, but you shouldn't. Since they are console specific, and you already have A9LH it really isn't necessary in my honest opinion. It's not needed for a hardmod either, just the NAND backup (then A9LH can be installed normally and the OTP retrieved again). So if I were you, I would just get a new SD card and put the files as seen in the last step of guide on there then restore your NAND backup and update to 11.3 after you're running Luma, then re-install all your stuff. Since you can't get the files from your old SD card, you're going to lose everything installed on your system for the most part.

this is a brand new 3ds for me so I'm not loosing much all the good stuff is still on my o3ds I'm just not sure how to get it all transferred over. why does the guide say to back up the otp then?

In case you overwrite A9LH and want it again, you won't have to downgrade to 2.1 again to retrieve it.

You fried you're SD card, if I was you I wouldn't even turn my console off as a precaution , I would just plug it into a wall charger and leave it while I quickly get a replacement SD.

I get that this wasn't what was asked, but if the OTP is dumped, wouldn't that mean A9LH is installed?
(iirc it's dumped when you're installing A9LH.. emphasis on if.)

It does. He's trying to get his OTP again since he lost it. Even though he doesn't really need it.... But to each his own.

Just to be clear, is there a way that you're sure that the microSD card is dead and not your SD card reader? I know you said it heats up, but a faulty reader could do that too and it would be a lot more convenient if it was that. Maybe try another card in it?
