Hold on there Nostradamus.

Until Sony starts to see the decline of hardware sales PS4/Pro isn't going anywhere. They have a substantial lead in hardware sales, a very strong backing of 3rd party support that MS wished it had (check Gematsu's list of exclusives if you don't believe me) and no competition that they need to be concerned with other than making sure they don't shoot themselves in the foot and keeping the ship going in the right direction.

Will it be another 10 year cycle, probably not. But I would truly not expect to hear any peep of news from Sony about a PS5 at least until 2020. The only way that changes is if (as I said) they flub something, people gripe too much about lack of releases or hardware power. Or MS absolutely crushed them with the Scorpio (which again MS doesn't have any strong 3rd party support, so the chances of that are very slim at this time).

That puts them at a 7 year hardware cycle and something I think they can pull off, we'll probably see a revision of the Pro at some point with an Ultra HD Bluray player.
The fun thing is that Nintendo promoted Switch as a third pillar (the three pillars being home console, handheld and hybrid). So we are actually still waiting for Nintendos ninth generation home console. ;) Now imagine them announcing the real Wii U successor at E3 2017! :D

(Yeah, I know, they said NDS wouldn't replace GBA and Wii wouldn't replace GCN and it still happened - but this time it isn't even a true "home console" which is supposedly replacing the Wii U.)

Disclaimer: No, I don't believe there's gonna be another home console announcement any time soon, I was just playing with the thought. ;)

Switch is a home console that can be portable ,its the successor to wii u and MAYBE 3ds if it does well

Maybe? MAYBE? Have you seen how much $$$ the 3DS has done for Nintendo?

True, but if Switch does well they will make more systems that can have handheld and home cosnole and keep their hybrids going for 7 -8 years instead, that would gift them even more software sales than the 3ds which they dont sell for a profit but yeh 3ds makes them the most money

I just hope the switch sells so gamers get the best of both home console and handheld worlds

It runs splatoon in 720p. It runs mario in 720p. If you have other information then do please provide me. I'm giving you facts and you're giving me fanboy nonsense
Trailers* for these games ran in 720p. If you have any evidence of any game actually running on Switch hardware while docked at 720p, please provide it. Otherwise STFU with your purposefully misleading bullshit.

Well i'm pretty sure Steep would only run on 720p - Docked Mode.

900p or 1080p most likely. It's still also just in the trailer phase with no gameplay running on Switch yet, so hard to know.
You are really too optimistic... 900p could be.. but naah, to many polygons. 900p with a heavy reducing of the graphics would suck for that game, i'm sure they would just reduce the resolution

From what we've seen of Switch ports so far, detail distance and overall view distance just needs to be reduced a bit to get XB1/PS4 games running. Not a single game has been shown actually running at 720p in docked mode yet, so I'm not sure why you think they'd start doing that now. Even Wii U ports that are natively 720p run on Switch at 900p.

As I've pointed out previously, Switch even runs 4-player splitscreen for Fast RMX at 1080p and 60 FPS. I haven't seen a full 3D XB1/PS4 game that does that.

Fast RMX isn't a hardware heavly game. The effects are quit simple and it sure is no problem for the hardware.
I mean, even the Wii U could run games like Watchdogs, Assassins Creed Blackflags and so on~ since this is a better hardware, what else did you expected?
But still... it's not a Console made to be High-End.. it will have many games running at 720p - 30fps, because of lazy developers, and you will have to face it. :)

Edit ~ Dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong about 720p - 30FPS. But i just want to point out, thats you are too optimistic.

Yeah, Wii U did run those games, often at 720p. And Switch is more powerful than Wii U even while portable, so now maybe you understand why your suggestion that it'll run in 720p docked is ridiculous. A UE4 port from XB1/PS4 takes only a week to get running on Switch. And that's porting 1080p to 1080p. It's just a matter of optimization passes from there. If a developer doesn't even do one optimization pass, then they deserve their game inevitably selling very poorly.

FAST RMX looks to be graphically as good as the WiiU version was so it can't be demanding too much from the Switch hardware.

Which console do you guys think will sell the most?

PS4 Pro came out recently and so did Xbox One S so the PS5 probably wont be out until as early as Late 2018 or Early 2019 at the very earliest, this means this will be the first console generation where a console gets roughly a 2 year lead/advantage

Nintendo Switch 2017, PS5 Late 2018 - 2019 , Scorpio Late 2018 - 2019 (2020 would be too late to compete, 3 year gap)

Which system will win this console generation, mind you if PS5 and Scorpio are not mentioned at E3 then that means that Switch gets a 2 year advantage, very nice :D

I think PS5 will win the gen but I want Switch to win so bad :D

Sony didn't say about PS5 next year or two. It might be in 5 to 8 years later. A new Nintendo system (Not Switch) will competitive against PS5 and XBOX Scorpio 2. That's silly to vote so I vote none. It doesn't makes sense at all. Thanks but no thanks.

Which is why it's only impressive when it runs 4-player splitscreen at 1080p60. Wii U ran 4-player splitscreen at 720p30 or 60 I believe.

out of interest when do you feel ps5 will relase xzi?
PS4 Pro released not long ago, and that's Sony's competition for Scorpio, which isn't even out yet. I'd say 4-5 years at least where games get released for Pro/Scorpio/PC, with the same games getting graphically diminished ports to PS4/XB1/Switch. In general I see all platforms slowly gaining parity with each other, and there will be fewer and fewer exclusives as time goes on.

We've almost hit the glass ceiling on graphics as well. Only a few developers can field the 50-100 man teams you need to create polished 4K AAA games. Indies have had a number of resurgences over the years and we'll probably be seeing another one soon.

Nooo.. thats not how it works... noooo nooo :( please nooooooooo
If you port a game to another hardware which has less power, you have to change much. Not only draw distance, even the code how it handle everything, since it has another architecture.. thats why ports often takes a few months, when they you more then just standard libraries which are cross-compiler availble. The Switch can run older games better since it has more power, but that doesn't mean it can run newer games as fast as a PC / Pro / xBox. You are comparing a DS to a 3DS with that.. Please noo.. stop.. i really love the idea of the switch.. but stop with this "everything is awesome" sh.t. It's not. It is a hybrid console which will be running mostly good because of the handheld functionality. Not because of its power. Same reason why the 3DS is still alive but slowly dies.

The Scorpio will be better than the pro, since they have more time to improve it. So will PC always be better than any console. You can't just take a game, reduce some graphics, make small performance improvements and put it to another console. Just for the Switch we already got the problem, different Architecture. And this my friend is a big problems for developers. Small changes can take weeks to be made, since it is not always possible to use the same ways.

Oh and the thing with the 50-100 man teams~
Small reminder. Here you see a 1 man team.

I understand entirely how it works, which is why I'm tired of discussing apples vs oranges with you. We have evidence of games being ported from XB1/PS4 to Switch already, and they're typically 1080p. For UE4 and Unity at least, the Switch's power difference with XB1 is minor enough that porting is simple. That's the reality of it. We don't need to discuss 720p docked Switch games until one actually releases.

It depends on the engine. With Unity and UE4 at least, porting between PC and consoles (including Switch) has been made relatively simple. These are also some of the easiest engines to build VR support into a game with.

That must've taken a very very long time, or he's using modified assets from something else. It still appears pretty barren relative to something like say, GTA 5.
