Nintendo to launch official overpriced micro Sd cards, with the switch logo on them.
its scheduled for a japan release, for now

with the 16GB model listed at 1,900 yen (around $16) and the 32GB model at 3,400 yen (around $30). Amazon Japan has both listed at much higher prices, though: 4,480 yen (around $39) for 16GB and 6,250 yen (around $54) for 32GB. Either way, to own an official Switch memory card you will have to pay a premium price

Ehh, imagine if Nintendo's like "lol Switch cards only for certain games"
People would really protest I believe.
Not that they truly couldn't do it, Sony used a proprietary format for the Vita Mem cards after all, but since both Wii U and 3DS are already using standard formats, switch-ing back to proprietary would seem like they are moving backwards really.

The Switch and his overpriced accessories....

Or don't get either at all and get a Sandisk 200 GB card for $70. What kind of misguided sheep buy Nintendo branded SD cards? There is no difference in Samsung or Sandisk, they both store data.

Wasn't there something like that for the Wii or 3DS too? I remember something very slightly
there was wii and dsi official branded sd cards that was also over-priced as F.
so although nintendo making a micro sd card for the switch is news. the fact they had been selling expensive cards because it has a nintendo logo is nothing new...

it was funny though, the 3ds xl shipped with a lexar card, and there were official nintendo ones (made by other brand) in the stores

There is a difference, but it usually doesn't really matter when it comes to most if it's uses for consoles :P

I think this is smart business tactics, honestly. They knew that serious gamers would be furious if they went with an overpriced proprietary memory format. ...However, memory cards are a big seller for a video game console and can generate a good deal of profit. So what do they do? Release an SD card with their logo so that non-tech-savvy people (E.g. parents/grandparents buying gifts) will purchase them not knowing any better. It pads Nintendo with a little extra dough and leaves nothing for people to get upset about, because if they don't like it they can always purchase an affordable card from any other manufacturer.

The only thing they have to be careful of is to avoid overstocking it and then not selling enough if consumers turn out to be smarter than they thought. Given Nintendo's tendency to aim VERY low with inventory quantity, I don't think this will be any problem for them. ;)

Don't complain about the prices! Be grateful that it isn't some proprietary sh!t that will stay expensive even long after the console is already dead (hello VITA!).
so I am happy we will see full backups/piracy one day on huge micro SD hards of 256GB+ for a handful of dollars :)
it is just a matter of time. and we got enough of that until the good games come out for the switch!

Really? lmao

I got my 64GB Samsung EVO for around 20eur.

Yup. The EVO cards have been tested by a number of different tech sites. Been confirmed to be one of the fastest, most reliable and long life Micro_SDs on the planet. Samsung and the Labs at MIT have created a master piece in these cards. Can't wait til the EVO batteries get released!
