How do they check who "altered save data"? If they really check against save data modification, I'm ok with it. If they check for illegal stats or whatever, some unaware people could get banned by getting a hacked pokemon by trading...
Ehhh, the criteria is still the same probably (going to Battle Spot Rated with mons that are illegal in BS's way of being illegal), as is the method for self-unbanning.

I believe people have the right to use their games in whatever way they wish, as long as it doesn't affect other people. If it doesn't affect other people, then I don't consider it to be cheating (I don't care if you or Game Freak do).

Plenty of things go against TOS (modifying consoles, anyone?), but, to me, that doesn't justify (morally speaking) banning them.

To be honest, I have no intention of getting into a 'morality of genning and banning' argument.

If you modify your console to play backed up games, the console company have the right to revoke all of your online capabilities.
If you modify data in a game (which isn't possible on a unhacked console) they have the right to revoke your online capabilities.

You can't justify piracy nor can you justify cheating.

"But I hacked in a pokemon which can be legitimately obtained"
It is still using external tools to inject something.
It's still cheating.

Good for you that you do not care, but open your eyes and face the truth.
Alteration of game data is wrong and can lead to a bad.

You can't justify piracy
Yes I can. Give me a convenient way to buy and play my games and I'll do it. But for now I have the choice between
  • buy carts and swap all day
  • buy digital and get rekt when servers shut down in 2020 and I can't install MH4U back after uninstalling it to make space for MHGen
So nope, I really need piracy to buy carts and install cias.

Cheating ok, I can't really justify that. Even in MH4U where relic armors are impossible to get, well maybe it's still part of the game to dream on.

And moral of the story is pretty much straightforward:
1. Use legality checkers (like the one that's built into PKHeX)
2. Keep two save files or two different games (and SaltySD allows you to do just that)
3. Never EVER go online with unreleased stuff (and many people learned this lesson hard way)

I got a shiny lugia yester day from wonder trading shocked me don't know if its legit or not but etherway i cloned them made 30 of them then link traded half of them to people in the gts and as of right now i'm not banned.. did the same thing with the other pokemon games on 3ds using powersaves and they never banned me for it so i don't really think that they will ban for it as i don't think they have a way to tell that you were the one that sent the cloned pokemon you got in a trade as it does not have the player id that you have.

Wow, not really surprised. Haven't tried to play online in a while, but I have modified a game save or 2. Any Pokemon I had usually only went towards friend battles. Haven't played Sun or moon online so I should be safe? xD

Well, the game logs everything you do. Catching mons, trades, money, shinys you encountered etc. etc. etc.
It's not like many people use PGL anyway.
So as long as you don't use an older save to go online/do game synch, you are save.
What's the ip of the synch server anyway?

That's a legal backup and within your right, assuming you purchase it, is it not? Piracy assumes you never purchased the game, which is not justifiable.

Yep, basically, seems bans were issued to people cheating in Global Link activities or that had unusual or impossible things in their save data like impossible number of objects or maybe used Marshadow

Well the good thing is.. Most of my Pokemon are "legit" to the game. And I don't even know what the Global link activities are... So im definitely safe.

Well first question who was indeed banned right now?
I did edit my poke(IV/moves), and added items on pokemon and that's it, no problem so far.
So we need some report of people that got indeed banned and what they did exactly.

You could also opt for a bigger SD card.

Piracy still is piracy.
No matter how you want to bring it.
It's still wrong

Yeah I purchase it. Sometimes after playing it though lol, like Pokemon Moon which I got for Christmas even though I played the leaked version lol. But I loved the experience of playing it while it was not out yet so there wasn't much information on the internet that could spoil me :D

I'm already using a 128GB card, exactly because Nintendo is annoying with their shit. And well, it doesn't feel good to have 16 seconds of boot time, just like what menuhax offers with a 32GB card.
And I would opt for several SD cards if I was not on a New 3DS where swapping carts requires removing two screws.

I don't know where you see me say it's not wrong by the way. I actually don't care about right or wrong. If there is no right way to get what I want, I'll use the wrong ones. Just like how homebrewers hack games to run their own because they are not allowed to otherwise.
That's wrong. They don't mean any harm. They don't have the choice. Use these three sentences with "and"s and "but"s where you want, it'll still be true.

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.

i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
