I'm installing a9lh onto my N3DS 2.1.0U via SafeA9LHInstaller executed on 2xrsa.3ds.guide and I get the following error:
Error: payload_stage1.bin doesn't exist or
exceeds max size
I have everything on my SD card, as seen in this screenshot
It should be working, it it seems like the file(s) is(/are)...

...'Unseen by my 3DS'...

...oh my god why did I think that was a good way to end this post...

They need to go in the A9LH folder

Great...now I have another problem \:P.
This time it's this:
An error has occurred:
Failed to mount CTRNAND.
Press any button to shutdown
I'd also like to note that my dump wasn't backed up at all, due to no space.

(Read the spoiler, please.)
For some reason the guide has had the part taken out where it says to do a 9.2.0 CTR transfer if you don't have a backup. But anyway, do that.

By the way, it's very irresponsible to not have a backup. You should be following the guide exactly as written no exceptions

If you didn't have space you should have gotten a bigger SD card to use for the a9lh installation, or deleted stuff you didn't need.

Should is such a strong word, try "You'll want to."
Either way, thanks for the tip.
As for the clearing up space, it's safe to say I had no clue what I was doing,
as for a new SD, it's in use by a camera, other 3DS, etc.

Well, you are lucky that CTR transfer exists. You might have bricked yourself because you did something different. The next time you do something different, there might not be a way to recover. If it were me, I would have copied the photos on the camera SD card to my computer, cleared it, and used that. Or bought another (you're probably going to want to upgrade SD cards soon anyway, if you're already out of space). But anyway, it's your $200 console :P

Meh, I wouldn't mind spending some to get it repaired, cause then at least I'd have it. :P

theres no try to follow" there is only Should and Will do EXACTLY, its made teh way it is for a reason to keep impatient people from bricking. skipping steps from teh start till you restore your backup is a No no. teh only one you can afford to skip tbh is copying the luma payload to ctrnand as it only lets ya use teh 3DS should teh SD Reader die on you or SD/microSD give up teh ghost and you has no spare.

edit: and @Zee_ unless for whatever Reason your using a 2GB SD, a 4GB w/ your Nintendo 3DS folder backed up (this folder holds your games and saves) is more than enough to hold a pre-A9LH backup and the 2.1 ctrnand transfer image + the essentials, and dont say " No its not." i've done that w/ a crap 4GB SD that came w/ my used N3DS
