I've been wanting to get Custom Firmware for a while, but I've been scared to, since I don't want to accidentally brick my system. What's the chance of me bricking my system? If I get good replies, I'll go for it I guess. Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I HAVE NOW OFFICIALY INSTALLED CFW! THANKS TO EVERYONE THAT HELPED ME OUT IN THIS THREAD!

its totally worth it. just follow the guide to the letter, dont skip steps, and youll be fine.
this includes not skipping the nand backup step!!!
and the guide is solid too, takes you from a stock console to cfw so no steps should break your head :D

I don't think it's worth it. Every day you'll see people with issues. If you want to spend the rest of your time troubleshooting your 3ds then hack it. Even if initial installation doesn't brick your 3ds, something will happen and it will stop working and people here will tell you to buy a new motherboard. Lol

Thats just because people are stupid and can't read.

Read, read, and re-read 3ds.guide until you feel confident in actually performing the steps. If you do this then everything should work wonderfully, but at anytime if you do have a hiccup in this process DO NOT PANIC and just start doing things that YOU THINK will fix your problem. STOP where you are and re-read the guide or come back here and post.

If you read everything correctly and can follow directions, there's no problems

Totally my dude. Free games, basic total control over the hardware...

Still not better then DS homebrew scene

Do you already know that almost 95% of bricks while trying to get CFW are user related?
A wrong decision, a step not taken correctly, a wrong button pressed, a low battery and no charger connected... well the list is very long.

I've just got CFW using Plailect's Guide and I can tell you it's worth it, even better than buying an over priced flashcard.

Don't make him scared, he'll do just fine

What risk? There is no "risk." People just don't know how to follow guides properly.

Yes. PLEASE don't make me scared. I'm already halfway through, and if I get scared now, I won't finish.
Nah man. You have nothing to worry about...unless you're on a new3ds and close it after you're on 2.1. This is only ON 2.1, not a lastingly effect.
