My friend attempted the downgrade process on his own and got stuck on the 2.1.0 firmware section and he closed his new 3ds before telling after I warned him not (what can you do) he has a nand backup (thank god he listened to that) and now i was wondering is there any other way besides hardmod to restore or I can try to do something else

Thankfully he has a saved nand image. Unfortunately indeed, the device needs to be hardmodded, then you can write back the nand backup to your 3DS

Just be thankful it can at least be restored with a hardmod. Although given your "friend's" track record of following instructions I don't recommend he attempts to do the hardmod on his own.

Yea... The sleep mode on 2.1.0 isnt set properly for a N3DS because it wasnt out then... So the difference in the fw bricks it fully :/ hardmode cant really fix this..

...I am not that kind of person first of all and second let me ask him if the light was blinking when he closed it or if he turned it off bc if he turned it off I believe it won't cause a brick and if the light wasen't blinking then he may still have a chance so I mean we are at a 50-50 chance here and he was literally the only that was interested in the scene it's rare to find that, but on the brightside if he hardmods then he can already downgrade from 11.3 no prob

If your friend can somehow get back into his 3ds, i would never let him attempt the installation EVER AGAIN. Not putting the 3ds into sleep mode is the easiest and least risky step of the guide, it takes a lot of skill to fuck that one up.

Still, you should tell your friend there are hardmodders on here who he can pay to fix his console for him, and maybe he'll have a chance.
