So I hacked/modded my WiiU several years back.
My Friend Nate Handed me an Original Wii
Plus all the junk that goes with it over the Holidays.
Well my first impulse was Ooo I gotta Hack this Bitch too!
So what seemed the easiest to follow was Austin's groovypost.
https://www.groovypost.com/howto/softmod-nintendo-wii-easy/
And I compared with wii.guide as I went along to see if they diverged anywhere.
Mostly Identical.

So I did get the files from the links in the groovypost.
The other links I found to letterbomb kept giving me a certificate
not same error trying to visit that website.
The groovypost guide also mentioned getting modpack.zip
I also got but I had some question about the boot.elf being older
so I made sure to use the one in the letterbomb.zip it being newer date and all.

So far I have succeeded without issue.
I have made the backup. I also noticed the Priiloader contained in
this bundle was v.7 so I found v.9 and replaced the app files for it
before installing it. And that's where I have gotten to thus far...

The Two things I have Q? about... This bundle included:

*Wii Mod Batch (v3.0) <<What is it and do I need to install it?
Also is there a newer one? ie v3.2? or whatever.

*Wii Mod (v3.0) <<Ditto? Actually I would likely get the v3.2 app before proceeding...

I am hoping the expert who started this thread is still around.
But anyone who specifically knows what I am asking please chime in...

I can't really find a way to ask that Austin guy who wrote the groovypost or I would have.

Update to my post... I attached a pic of the wad folder this stuff put on my SDCard. I believe
I understand that the Wii Mod Batch installs all of these. Are they safe? Are they outdated?
Should I only install some of them? or None? What Benefit are they?

If you want a tip, the easiest way to mod a wii is using modmii. Modmii.github.io

OK!

But well I have already done this. That much at least. In changing my path
is there more of a chance of screwing this unit up and Bricking it? How
should I proceed? At this point? I'm trying to be very careful I have it at this
point so far... Pictured below...

Also I should add: (pictured in the menu below)
I havent done wii mod batch 3.0
I havent done wii mod 3.0
so those wad files have not been installed yet.
I tried to put a wbfs on a usb and when I launched it
using usb loader gx the unit just black screen hung.
The USB stick I tried was old just laying in a drawer. Maybe its crap,
or maybe because I have not added those wads yet? Duno!

Using modmii from step 1 as if the console was unmodified is safe, you may repeat steps but it doesn't hurt anything, any older mods will be overwritten.

Try it, it's easy and safe. Modmii has never had a single brick report. As long as you stick to it's guides and carefully follow them you'll be fine, and learn a lot along the way.

Edit: so to be clear, go to modmii.github.io, download and install the English version of modmii, start the main wizard from its menu, when asked, tell it your console is a virgin/unmodified even if that's not 100% true, proceed to the end of the questionnaire and have it build u a guide and supply you with files for your sd card / usb hdd

I'll Likely do that. Im trying to learn about those Wad's I listed above tho?
I'd like to have a rudimentary understanding of what the mods steps are doing.

So I watched the ModMii Video. Wow that thing does alot. I noticed it DL items
that have Cios & IOS in their names... I'm assuming these are the Wad's.
Like in that other mod.

I'm guessing compared to the old list of wads I posted above it gets the most current wads available?
And some of those i listed are likely older versions &/or some are no longer needed.

Also regarding the nand backup file I created earlier with this older Mod package...
Is that backup still restorable with the tools provided with MODMii?

You correct on all points, modmii will get you the latest and greatest.

Bootmii nand backups are a component of any good guide, and can potentially be restored should the need arise. The backups aren't guide-specific, so any backups you already made would still be recoverable.

I have ReHacked using MODMii.
Now I only did BootMii as boot2, I have not done BootMii as IOS.
I thought I read its safer not to or something to that effect???
Is there some reason I should do the BootMii as IOS too?
Will the unit not do certain things if I do not?
Does it boot differently, that is an advantage with BootMii as IOS?

I was about to do the YAWMM steps that install those Wads but I
thought I should wait till I hear back from you about BootMii as IOS
before proceeding! Didn't know if there was an issue going back &
doing BootMii as IOS after doing the YAWMM Wads? I don't want to
Screw up!

I guess I don't really understand the significance between IOS & Boot2...

Apparently I am not alone in wondering about the answer
to the question above. Do I need it both ways.
Other responses to people asking the same Question seem vague.
Reading many threads here and elsewhere.
I ran across this thread on Reddit:

Did you also install as IOS?

As it indicated you should install as one or the other, no.
Should I also install the IOS to get the HBC capability? Does it negatively interfere with the Boot2 install?

I own wii.guide. BootMii as boot2 is launchable via the HBC, and installing as both boot2 and IOS is not necessary, boot2 is sufficient if you're lucky enough to have it.

Interesting. I wonder what is causing the issue when followed exactly per the guide, and it appears I'm not the only one. I even went to the trouble of trying with a fully compatible sd card with the same result. For the record I think you have a good thing going with the guide, and your efforts are appreciated, I just get curious on if I missed something glaring or is it just a shit happens scenario.
Could the exploit method be the cause? I use letterbomb nowadays.

If what larsenv posted above is not correct please somebody explain why?
Is Wiimmfi inaccessible without "Bootmii as IOS" or something?

There is no harm in installing both bootmii as IOS and as boot2. Some apps will try to launch bootmii ios, and if not installed it will return to system menu even if bootmii is installed to boot2. Installing to both (if you are able) would mean that apps trying to load bootmii will be able to do so in all cases.

From a brick protection perspective, if you have bootmii installed as boot2, you do not need bootmii as IOS to be protected. But again, I suggest installing both from an app compatibility perspective

Edit: any good/similar response can be found here

Is it ok to do so even after I have done the YAWMM installation of the Cios/ios WADS?
Would I need to re do those wads or anything afterwards?

I've got the thing working atm without doing IOS, only did boot2.
I may wait till I run into something that requires me to do so....

if that occurs...

Once done is IOS Irreversible?
