Hey all, I'm a very beginner programmer and the 3DS hacking scene has caught my eye. However, I got very lost very quickly after homebrewing my 3DS and would like some help. I have compiled a list of things I don't understand and if someone could explain to me what these items are, what they do, and how to get them, that would much appreciated
-CFWs
-CIAs
-FBIs (honestly what's with the agent talk?)
-NANDs (either Sys or Emu)
-Fasthax
-Forwarders
-Loaders

I will probably add/remove to the list as I learn more. Thanks in advance for the help!

Ok this is going to a long post so get ready...

CFW: Patches the 3DS firmware for things such as disabling signature checks so you could run custom CIAs
CIA: A CIA is a installable title. Anything you see on your home menu is a CIA. Stands for CTR Installable Archive
FBI: It allows you to install CIAs among other cool stuff. It's a play on words.
NAND: The NAND is the internal storage of the 3DS. SysNAND is what is actually in your 3DS, while EmuNAND is a emu-lated NAND on the SD card.
Fasthax: A new exploit for 11.2 that allows more privileges to the 3DS, so good for us. Will be finished soon.
Forwarders: Emulators are usually standalone and require loading the emulator then running the rom. A forwarder cuts out the middle part and always boots one title. Usually a CIA.
Loaders: To be honest you would need more context for me to help you with this one.

Thanks much guys! I understand a bit more now so that's good. I've read that the most recent firmware (11.35-U I think) can not install CIAs. Is this true? If so can I downgrade?

yes. unless you or someone you know has one of a few particular DSi games which they already purchased on the Eshop (they were taken down), or you can solder wires to a motherboard just fine, you can't downgrade. (yet)

You can downgrade right now if you are at 11.00 or 11.10 if you are on 11.20 then you will have to wait a day for this guide to be updated follow it and you will have a9lh(The ultimate hack that loads cfw) https://3ds.guide/

Nope, you can use Zoogies build of safehax if you have some experience.

Im doing it with a friend on skype, he is on 2.1 from 11.2
Yeah it has shocked me how much progress was made yesterday. Nintendo must be thrilled with us right now. But in my opinion I will wait the day for fasthax to come out instead of using the beta but I guess everybody has different opinions.

Ok, so I want to install the a9lh thingamabob but before I do I want to start my 3DS without any of the hacking I've done it already. I do however, want to keep game data. Which files are essential for game data and which can I get rid of? Next question, a9hl works on the current firmware correct?

This may be unclear so ask me to specify if needed.

If you have over 4gb free on your sd, you can just continue, everything should be there once you are done. And yes a9lh does work on current firmware, thats the purpose of it. Only thing you need to backup is your tickets(its in the guide around the 2.1.0 ctrtransfer part) if you want to keep your digital games and software

now its a statement :yay:
Yup, I'm going to do it tonight. I'm a bit nervous because of inexperience but hey, go big or go home.

I was going to ask this later but I figure I'll get it out of the way. Can someone link me to a current guide to installing freeshop? Thanks in advance.
