Hardware Is it true dev unit new 3DS systems have custom coverplates?

I forgot what topic I read it from but I remember someone said they got their hands on a panda 3DS and it had these custom cover plates which allows for easier accessibility to the SD card slot than whats available to consumers. I tried googling for pictures on these alleged cover plates but nothing.

Does anyone here with a panda 3DS can confirm whether this is true or not? If not are there any cover plates that would allow easier access to the SD card without having to unscrew the plate?

And the o3ds doesn't have removable cover plates.

Technically they can be removed, but they aren't suppose to be.

I am surprised there haven't been any third party backplates designed for easier access to the microsd slot by now.

The vast majority of users will be content with the original card.
A few will replace it with a larger size once, then leave it

Admittedly there are a few people who will actually use the 3DS for music and photos and thus need to access the MicroSD card, but I think that's fairly rare. And the 3DS has a FTP server built in.

Those that hack their 3DS and such are in most need of constantly accessing the MicroSD card, but Nintendo has no incentive to make that task easier.

What would Nintendo have to do with unlicensed third party backplates? If someone were to make them then they would be sold in the same place you can get r4/dstwo/gateway/sky3ds carts.

Third-party replacement back plates are pretty rare as it is. I think it would be difficult to fashion a backplate that provides easy access to the MicrSD card while at the same time having a form of protective dust cover. Sure you could just cut a hole in the middle of the plate, but unless it's protected dirt and crap can get inside it - and even worse, you might even lose the card. Figuring out a plate that meets those two criteria would be cost-prohibitive considering the demand is pretty minimal, and the demand for a gaping hole is even less. You'd be better off finding miniature thumbscreews, or simply using the FTP server.

Even if I will never get ahold of a panda 3ds cover plate set I wanted to see pictures of it so I can recreate a set for myself to use. I understand with how the XL sells more than the standard size 3ds the demand for this would be already low so I never expected 3rd party plates to be a thing, even if we take into consideration the whole world market.

I THINK I saw one and it was basically the same shape of the inner case (circle around the slot + rectangle extending until the end of the plate), but not really sure
