Hello everyone,

I am in a very grim mood right now. I was playing my copy of Pokemon Moon. Very excitedly went up the elevator at Mount Lanakila, ready to face the final trainers, when my 3DS crashed with a black screen saying that it had to power off. I proceeded to power it off wondering when the last time I saved was.

When I turned it back on, I had no picture on the screens. The blue power light was on, the home menu was not showing and the screens were black. At that point I tried rebooting the 3DS again, same result. To make things short, basically, I put 50+ hours into Pokemon and don't want to lose my save file. I wanted to know if there was a way to extract a save from the SD card without the 3DS booting. The 3DS has a blue light only and I can't seem to boot up.

NOTE: Not sure if this is the correct section, I posted here because I assume there could be some sort of software that can help me extract save files from the SD card.

Save files on the SD card are encrypted, and there's no way to decrypt them without a save manager. Until you can boot your systmem again, there's nothing you can do about your save file. Sorry.

Actually, now that I think about it, I have a friend coming over with A9LH and Luma a few days from now. Would it be possible to decrypt the save files on his 3DS?

It should, granted nobody formats your system or the SD card.

I'll back it up and hope that a format is not needed. Thanks for your help with this matter. I wasn't sure what to do.

In any case, would you happen to know if there is some way I could fix the 3DS. It boots up with the small blue light but the screens stay dark. If I hold start to load a payload it's the same issue. However, when the 3DS first turned off it did give an error. I assume the display itself works.

Hmm... Do you have another SD card you could try? I assume you have a9lh installed. This sounds like a brick, but I don't know how this could've happened. You could also try moving the files on your SD card to your computer, formatting your SD card, and then moving the files back. If it is a brick, you might be able to send it in to get a hardmod, but I think you need a NAND backup to make your 3DS boot property (I think, don't quote me on this), which I hope you have a recent NAND backup.

I do indeed have a very recent NAND backup. I tried restoring it with Decrypt9 as soon as I realized I had an issue but I couldn't get into it. I'll give it a try using a different SD and see what happens.

I think we might be onto something. I tried inserting the SD into my PC and it was not recognized. I then proceeded to try on my phone and my phone could not recognize the microSD either. What could I do in this situation?

I'm not sure exactly. If you can't even access your SD card, then I think you're out of luck. Someone might have a better suggestion. It's like your SD card completely died or something. Sorry to hear about this. :(

No problem, thanks for trying your best. I have an SD backup, going to try using that and seeing what happens.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

My 3DS booted with a new SD card using the SD backup, unfortunately I lose all my saves but that can easily be fixed with 50+ hours. xD

However, a million thanks because you pretty much were able to point me in the correct direction to fix my 3DS. I am grateful you were here to help me.

You're welcome! I'm just glad that you didn't end up bricking your system. :)
