So I finally got custom cfw on my o3ds (Luma 11.2). Now Before I follow the guide on the Dsiware downgrade, I have a question. Do I need to backup my n3ds? Will this complete get rid of all my saves and the stuff on my 3ds sd card?

So if I don't have anygames installed via eshop, I don't need to back up any saves (They are on the carts).
That's right, though some games (such as Monster Hunter Generations and Fantasy Life) store their save data as extdata on the SD, which is console-specific, even if they're cartridges.

(also 1,000th post woo)

Only Pokémon and Animal Crossing saves to the cartridge (and maybe a select few others). Everything else saves to the SD card so yes you'll have to back them up. Also note you will lose any Activity Log, Mii Plaza progress etc

So I own Pokemon Oras, Moon, and MHGEN. Would I just load jksm with the cartridge and export the save data and extra save data? Also would I load this up again when im done transfering and import the saves back?

JKSM will create a folder on your SD card, copy this to your PC for safe keeping then when you want to import the saves again, copy the folder back and choose to restore the saves instead of backing them up.

JKSV will backup the save data to a folder on your SD card. Also, and I'm not 100% sure as I haven't done this myself, but with MHGen, I believe you'll have to open up the game once post-transfer before importing/restoring the MHGen save back.

So After I downgrade my n3ds to 10.7, should I start by downgrading to 9.2 and then 2.0 and install arm9?
You should follow the guide. Don't do anything unless the guide tells you to.

You can't downgrade a console to 10.7 anyway so not sure where you got that from.

If you mean downgrading the NATIVE_FIRM to 10.4, then the guide tells you what to do - you continue on to "Homebrew Launcher (No Browser)" and gives you a link.

No, MOST games save to the cartridge. You are confusing card1 and card2 saves. Card 2 saves like Animal Crossing and Pokémon save directly to the ROM in a writeable area. Other games save to some write-able memory like an eeprom or really small flash memory built onto the PCB.

This I can't confirm myself right now but extdata is usually extended data such as DLC and stuff. I am pretty positive that I was able to use my Monster Hunter Generations card in multiple systems and keep the save file. Every new system it does initialize a new extdata though when launching.

I just put my MHGen cartridge into my second 3DS, it said "There is no data to load." MHGen saves its data to the SD as extdata.

Makes sense. Surprised it took them this long. Easy way to combat cheating unless you have CFW system. No more powersaves :D

I think that it's possibly more about keeping one save to one system/account, as online is such a huge part of MH, or perhaps that the save file would have been too large to fit on the cart (unlikely).

So I'm on 9.2 now with menuhax installed. Now before I continue on the guide with Decrypt9, Can I just copy my files to a new sd card? Is there any specific step to do this or can I just copy and paste all the files on my 4gb sd card to my 32gb?

Yes I posted this before using the dsidowngrade title and seeing that it says that you don't downgrade to 10.7 :P

If you haven't started anything with EmuNAND yet, you can just copy your files from your current SD to your computer (don't use microSD management; actually take out the SD), and then onto a new SD card. Always keep backups.
