Hi,
Im kind of a noob! Havent used a flashcart since before the 3ds existed. Was much easier then!

I have a new 3ds XL, its updated above 11 and so I cant downgrade it or use custom firmware.
So I understand that the Sky3ds is my only option (other then sending off my ds for hardmod and I dont really want to do that).

I was just about to buy one when I thought I better do more research.
Ive seen that people are being banned because of using public headers and going online? Is creating a private header easy? or how do you stay offline during play.
I dont want to get banned!

Are there any other issues that I need to worry about as well?

Thanks in advance!

Firstly, are you on 11.0 or 11.1 by any chance? IF you are, you will be able to downgrade your 3ds without another 3ds soon.

If not... I don't have a Sky3ds+ (as I'm on Luma CFW) but from what I can tell all you need is a 3ds game you've bought with online capabilities, which you extract the private header for and use that so you can play online on your sky3ds+. Not sure how the extracting process works but if you're using one you wont get banned. You could just never go online, thats also an option but thats no fun :P

If you use a public header you'll eventually get banned, soon.
It's easy to create a private header, IF, you has the necessary tools (gateway, powersave, etc).

To stay offline just turn off the wi-fi.

I quickly read about how to create a private header and didn't think I could do it? I thought that I couldn't have gateway because my 3ds was on the latest 11 version?

11.2 is the latest one, BUT if you're on 11.0/11.1, there should be a new downgrade method coming out sometime in december. It will require you to get a exploitable game though, like Ocarina of Time

Just checked I'm on 11.0.
And ok thanks! It's bad, but I don't think I'm patient enough to wait! Think I'll get the sky3ds!

If I waited and used a method to downgrade and get custom firmware (sorry if the following is a dumb question) but doesn't that mean you couldn't ever update your system? Which means you are running on outdated technology?

No once you have CFW running you can update like normally through system settings and you'll stay hacked

Ah ok,
That changes things! Maybe I will wait.
So using custom firmware, you can still play 3ds games like normal?

Yep you can play 3ds game carts or install them through the freeshop (basically a hacked eshop for CFW).

If you were gunna wait for the new downgrade (which is called slowhax) I would look into getting homebrew launcher set up so you can download the DSiware game called Legends of Exidia. They removed the other games that made the hack work last week so no telling when they'll remove that one

Okay thank you, I will do that now.

If I was to get sky3ds, went offline when I was using it, but then changed game to a physical game cart and went online- would I get banned?

Yeah check this out to see if you can get into homebrew launcher -

This is your best bet because it's free compared to the other options which require buying a game.

And as long as the sky3ds+ is not in the system you'll be fine
