Hope this is the right place to ask this question!

I ran across a tutorial on how to set up RedNAND.
I've been searching, but since I don't know what it is I'm looking for, I really don't know where to look.

I take it RedNAND has something to do with WiiU's NAND, or?

What is it? How does it work? What are the benefits?

Help a poor sod....

RedNAND is a second NAND on your Wii U console. You can mess around with it as much as possible and brick it if you want. The benefits is installing pirated DLC. I don't recommend it because first of all you have to launch web browser every time to launch RedNAND and there are no auto-boot on startup hacks. Although if you want to use it you can.

Oh, so currently, the only thing exclusive to redNAND at this point is pirated DLC and the ability to brick it without much worry (I mean, sure, nobody wants that, but it's better than your sysNAND)?
I'm just asking since to my knowledge, we can already install titles with modified wupinstaller, and all homebrew is available with the same method as usual.

Plus the ability to install virtual console titles plus the ability with sysconfigtool to play out of region games plus a whole lot more abilities.

I wouldn't be throwing the word "brickless" around when your talking about tools that allow to mess with nands. Take a look at the 3ds scene...

This is salt were talking about, well maybe not brick less but less of a risk with current public things that are unstable af

Hey guys, just wondering if all your comments here are still valid in 2019? I know a lot has changed on the scene lately, so I'm hoping that redNAND is a lot more stable now, or something even better exists...?

The implementations of that time (when CFWs based on a pre-modified fw.img were the norm) were completely unsuitable for the purpose of having an OS that you can update separately of the main one, since they did not use a separate copy of the EEPROM

Today's implementations (ie the optional one in Mocha) does that correctly, but it's still a waste of space for the vast majority of people (as having CBHC - spiritually equivalent to Priiloader on a Wii - installed gives you an escape from certain screwups; while if you are messing at an even lower level, which the common user isn't, chances are CFW is interfering with it anyway)

OK thanks, good to know. Since you mentioned CBHC, I've been wondering how safe that is too...but you're saying that it actually makes things safer in some ways?? What ways? What kind of "screwups" are you referring to that CBHC can help you recover from? MTIA! :)
