So I just got a new N3DSXL and I was looking at some posts of people downgrading 9.9 to 9.2. Most of them said that downgrading 9.9 caused a soft brick and that it was better to update to 10.3 before downgrading. Is this still relevant or can I just downgrade from 9.9 without worrying about a soft brick now?

Updating to 10.3 is easy enough, so if it makes you more comfortable and reduces the risk of bricking, go for it.

2 weeks ago, I was in the same situation (N3DSXL FW9.9) and at the point you have to downgrade to 9.2 my system ALMOST soft-bricked. First "An Error has occured" appeared and after turning off and back on only black screens. :( I turned off the system, removed SD card, turned on - black sreen. When I was sure I soft-bricked and was turning off the system, SUDDENLY standard "Power Off" screen appeared and I was back on partially downgraded 9.2. What a relief! Then 2nd try to downgrade was successful.

TL;DR I think downgrading from 9.9 is still problematic.

You can see the list of 3DS games that have a better update. I suggest games that update their already 3ds to version 10.2 or 10.3, depending of course on your region. Some games like hyrule Warriors have upgrade to 10.3 native.

You can see the list of games with native update this link: http://www.3dsdb.com/
(The firmwares category is in the right corner, hidden)

Updating to a firmware above 9.9 with a cart will remove his browser...

But he still had several exploits to try instead. I see no other solution. Tidying an Ocarina of Time game, which costs about U $ 19.99 (Nintendo selects) it is more likely than form the island and earn an automatic direct update to 11.2.0

There's no need to update in the first place.

Thank you for Remember about the update. I just do not understand where restart 3ds could facilitate the process. Can explain more clearly?
Formatting the 3DS prevents a softbrick from occurring. The chance of it happen is low, but formatting avoids it for sure.
