Updating from rxTools to Luma3DS

Follow https://3ds.guide to install Boot9strap, the latest and best setup you can have. It's super easy to setup, highly recommended to make the switch. Stop using EmuNAND and menuhax!!
Also, there's a step in the guide that has you move EmuNAND to sysNAND. So you won't lose any of your stuff in the end.

If you want personal one on one help with the process, send me a PM or let me know in a reply. It's also much quicker with my help than doing it on your own.

I deleted everything on my sd card, re do everything as you said (except placing the Lums3ds.bin on root since it doesnt come on the zip folder and there is nowhere to be found) and still black screen is showing up. Nothing happens after the configuration page shows. I feel like just sticking to RXtools unless someone can actually manage to fix the black screen :/
If you're still using rxTools at this point, then that's pretty sad. Times are way ahead of that now, even emuNAND is outdated and no longer necessary.
I'd recommend setting up Arm9loaderhax instead, it's the latest and best setup you can have. Everything from emuNAND will be copied over to sysNAND so no worries about losing your stuff.

There is no luma3DS.bin, my guide shows what you need exactly. From the sound of it, you have it setup correctly if it actually booted into the Luma config menu. Your emuNAND must be messed up or outdated. What firmware was it on?
Having arm9loaderhax.bin, boot.3dsx from luma3DS, and a luma folder should no doubt be all you need to get things working, considering you have menuhax installed.

Hello just wanted to say thanks for everything, i upgraded to luma with arm9loader and everything is working fine, but now that there is no other partition can i safely delete one of the Nintendo 3ds folders? the one that is lighter? because i dont remember wich one is the first one thanks

@Kurona While in emuNAND, go to system settings, other settings, then system update

@aerosukku I recently deletes some folders within my Nintendo 3DS folder, I had FIVE of them! The biggest one is the one you're currently using, where all your games are.

I have another problem i cant open homebrew launcher,it says press start button then i open my internet it just blackscreen.

Hi, I have cfw rxtools (RX-E 10.6.0-31U) on my O3DS, I believe I use the "menuhax" (the bottom screen flashes colors when I turn the 3ds on). Can I follow this tutorial to swtich to luma3ds no problem? I currently cannot use online play (for pokemon pretty much) because it says I have to update the firmware (and if I do that, I figure it would delete the homebrew?). Would switching to luma3ds as per this tutorial allow me to use online functions on my 3ds?? Thanks

Yes you're using menuhax, so you can switch to luma 3DS using the menuhax part of the guide. Simply placing the boot.3dsx and arm9loaderhax.bin files on the root would be all you need. Then once you're in Luma3DS CFW, you can go to system settings > Other settings > System update

And this wouldn't erase either the homebrew or my cias on the sd card, right? I have a 64gb card with over 50gb of games... I just want to be sure before I go screw something up. Thanks for the reply.

The games and apps are all within your emuNAND. Messing with files won't ever remove them (Unless you delete the Nintendo 3DS folder of course)
CFW is only an overlay on your emuNAND which enables patches. Different CFW handle patches differently so you won't change your emuNAND by using another CFW.

"3. Extract the luma folder to the root of the SD"

Which folder exactly? There are hax, menuhax, mset and mset-spider folders. All four of them inside one folder that I should rename 'luma'?

Or something else entirely? Many thanks in advance.

"There isn't any luma folder in the zip that i donwloaded"
Create one yourself, works the same way

Since this was addressed a page ago, and not in a way that helps me understand, I'll clarify:
Do I create an empty folder called luma in the root of the SD Card?

OR

Do I create a luma folder and put all four folders from the zip inside it?

Or something else?

i have little afraid to make any mistakes.

I've already tried a bunch of different variants, some resulting in the RxTools emunand loading up the same exact way it always does. I have no idea if any of these variants is emunand being accessed through Luma or nothing worked out and RxTools is loading just like it always would for me.

Some clear instructions would be really appreciated.

Sorry I kinda threw this together rather quickly because I didn't think people would actually still be on rxTools anymore.
My instructions has you open the zip file for Luma3DS, then drag the luma folder to the root. I believe the newer releases don't include it anymore because Luma3DS will create it on it's own. So it's an obsolete step.

Are you using Menuhax or MSET? If Menuhax, it's as simple as putting the Luma boot.3dsx (From the menuhax folder in the zip) on the root. Then placing the arm9loaderhax.bin from the zip, on the root of your SD.

If you wanted to, you can even go for an arm9loaderhax installation, which is easy to do now adays. You won't lose anything in the process.

Switching to Luma3DS should fix your online play problems. You can play them without arm9loaderhax.
Downgrading is just one of the steps for setting up Arm9loaderhax, but it's no big deal.

can i do this "Steps for Menuhax users : Extract the arm9loaderhax.bin file to the root of the SD " without downgrading my 3ds ?
my quetion is if im in 11.1.0-34u and i follow the Menuhax steps, it will work ?
Sorry im pretty noob at this i cant risk losing my actual configuration without being sure that it will work
