Homebrew updating New 3DS XL

Can i update my 3ds xl to the newer version without losing my CFW I'm running Luma3DS CFW right now. Just curious if in the future if installing .cia files would require newer FW/CFW. If i don't need to update i won't worry about it. Just thought I'd ask because the only games i'll be downloading in the future is Pokemon Sun & Moon and Mario Maker 3DS when they are out.

As long as you have a9lh you are always safe to update. So go ahead and update.

How can i check if i have a9lh?? I bought the system already modded and it had CakesCFW on it and i changed it to LumaCFW the next day lol.

Hold select while bootin 3ds. if a menu shows up you have a9lh

Yeah when i hold select the Luma3DS v5.5 (dev) Configuration screen pops up. If done that before. Should Force A9LH be checked or not??
