Hello to everyone.

This was my first attempt to install homebrews on a new 3DS XL.

So i followed the tutorial here https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-3-(A9LH) everything went OK till i got the part to install SafeA9LHinstaller.
It installed (after a few tries, cause i was getting a black screen, and only after 4 try i got into the app), but when it says press any button to power off i press any but it justs halts the system. Even if i hold power button for like 10 secs or more it won't turn off.

Did i missed some payload? Or something like that? If i take out the sd card, it won't boot (into the install safeA9) only when i insert the sd it boots into it. I'm saying boots, but looks like more the system is halting only.

If anyone can help me about this problem. I have the dumps and all, but i can't get out that screen.

Sorry to everybody, if i'm posting this in the wrong section, but i'm new to the site.

Thanks for all your attention.

PS: Forgot to wrote if i uninstall it, 3ds will boot fine (into homebrew or into the normal system menu).

Its normal for the system to not boot (and immediately turn off) if a9lh is installed. I have no idea why the system froze during safea9lhinstaller, just that the result was fine and you should have left it alone rather than uninstalling.

You have a wrong arm9loaderhax file.
Try reading the instructions again and replace it.

Otherwise, backup all the files in your SD card, delete all and replace them with fresh files from your downloaded zip files.

You have the wrong arm9loaderhax.bin on the root of your sd card. Take the one from the Luma3Ds.zip and replace the current one.

Edit: Phone f***ed up posting a reply ...

Thank you for all your answers.

After trying another go, end up with a brick (that what i think). Was using the latest one (Luma3DSv6.3.1 - following the tutorial). What happen was i select to full install, it start to install then black screen and solid blue light. Turn off the system and on again, and solid blue light. Its a hard brick?

Unfortunnately i don't have the tools or am i expert on how to unbrick, but i know someone that has done plenty work on ps3's and x360 but he also don't have a the right tools (after looking into this tutorial - https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-noob-friendly-nand-dumping-2ds-3ds-3ds-xl-n3ds-n3ds-xl.414498/ ) what he has is the old mini sd readers (USB) that came with the DS and it is what he uses for dumping coronas. Will that work? Or does he needs to solder directly to a SD CARD first then input it to a laptop (SD slot reader) or usbcard reader? Trying to get what the right tools to work.
Looking the usb sd readers, the closest is this one SanDisk SDDr-121. How does people work with this one? Soldering the wires directly to the pins? Cause this one is a mini sd card reader. Sorry for late answer, only got back from school a while back.

Thank you. Did try that, just now (after u link it). But with no luck.
I haven't config the luma yet, because when following the tutorial, the part ii was to install arm9loaderhax, so i cannot boot into anything else or have the config.bin file.

I got some pics from the friend not his sd card reader, is the same model and all the sd readers that came with the ds:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/tfovicrxn6u1bkg/CORONA R-W_2.jpg?dl=0

This is what he has to work with for xbox's. Will this do the dump? Or it might damage the equipment?

Well I can't help you with the hardmod part, but it looks like it could work if the cables are soldered to the right points ..... there should be plenty threads about hardmodding in the forum that should help you and your friend to do it :3
Last suggestion for you: Does the light stay lit without a sd card inserted? If yes it is most likely bricked.
Good luck :3

Yes. It stays solid with or without the sd card reader. Think is hard brick. Will ask on the hardmod tutorial section if that reader will work.
Have seen some with the wires soldered directly to usb reader but like i don't know mush about it can't be sure.

Are you on old or new 3ds? Were you using the otpless method? It's pretty weird to see that safeA9LHinstaller fails this way.

Its a new 3ds.
Not know if its relevant, but the only thing i did, was changing the date to the present (it had 2010 or so). Thinking thatmight be the fault it won't install or stayed on that screen saying version 2.5.1 and press any button to shut down the system, and after uninstall and trying another go, the screen goes black upon instalation and solid blue light, end up with a brick. Didn't got any wrong file, got all i the needed files from the tutorial, put all in right places and was using a 32GB LEXAR mini sd.

No, changing the date doesn't matter. I assume you are using the otpless method (the new method which doesn't require a 2.1 downgrade on n3ds). Well, other 2 bricks with this new method seems to be related to bad sd card, which was supposed to be fixed in 2.5.1. Your brick is probably a new alarm of potential bugs with the otpless method. I'm now for sure to stick with the old 2.1 dg method to install a9lh on my new sun/moon consoles.
I'm sorry for your brick but now your only choice is to do a hardmod. Good luck anyways.

Thanks.

That method 2.1 work for any 3ds, meaning new and old? The only tutorial that was complete and up to date was the github one, many people link that one here, so i followed it. :/

The only thing is here may be hard to find those readers maybe the SanDisk SDDR-121-A11M, that i think is soldered directly looking at it is a mini sd reader. And my friend has the same one i posted the pics, lets see if i find any :)

If you want to try again you can find older versions of the guide along with the downloads that were present at that time from my page quantumc.at

Ok. So i got the 3ds back from my friend and is back to live, but he couldn't do the rest cause he hasn't the time for it right now. So, i got here the 3ds and i tried the new version 2.6.1 of safea9lhinstaller, but same result. I can't get out of it. It says press any button to restart, but nothing. I hold the power button and it shuts off, then i try to power on again and end up in the same menu. Will try other sd card and see if anything changes.

EDIT: Ok. So after trying other sd it booted up to luma screen right away. Humm...i proceed the tutorial. Now i'm a bit lost. In the part it says i can update the firmware, is like normal?
To latest? Or can i upgrade to 11.0.0-33E instead of any other latest one?
If so, can someone please, let me know how i could do that. I don't like spoon feeding, but i'm a bit lost and i can't find much info on how to update.
Btw, it now shows SYS 9.2 is it right? I haven't proceed in the guide, cause i don't know if i can update to latest one, or not or if its better to update to the version i wrote (11.0.0-33E) manually, but also, i don't know how...

Thanks in advance.

EDIT2: So, after looking around a bit, found the way to update to 11.0.0-33E (in this case) with the sysUPDATER and using the updates .cia build with 3DNUS.

So all went ok this time.
Lesson learned for me, try another SD next time or reformat the existing (think that what lead to all this...not sure). Now the N3DS is on 11.0.0-33E and running all the latest homebrews.

Thanks to all you guys with all the info here at gbatemp, without you guys, this couldn't be possible.

Bests regards to all.

Next time you have to install A9LH on a New 3DS (if you ever do), use the OTP-less method, directly from 9.2. It's actually way safer and faster.

Yes, i was using that method. Without the need for going to 2.1 to get that otp key.
Short story, was this:
What went wrong, i really dunno. But the sd might or was corrupt after some uses (was using a 32GB micro sd). So after that problem appeared (that i wasn't able to get out of the safeinstaller) i search and i din't find any answer. So i tried to uninstall it and reinstall it like 2 to 3 times and the last time while it was installing it gave me a black screen and it was a brick. I had the dumps, so sent the n3ds to a friend and he used a white transcend P8 to write the good dump to the system. Then i got the system back and try to reinstall (using this time a newer version of safeinstaller) and again it won't let me get out of the installer (even that the instalation was a success). So i tried a 8GB microSD and it booted right up the LUMA config screen (dunno if that was the case or what was suppose to boot into, but acording to the guide no, cause this was my first attempt to a 3ds, i'm not a downgrader or person that works with consoles), then i followed the rest of the tutorial/guide and all ok. Reformat the 32GB microSD copied everything from the 8GB one to it, and all ok (so far).

So, this was what happened. If i had tried a new (or used/diferent) microSD the first time, maybe i didn't had that brick, but i really dunno why it bricked, just for trying to install and uninstall and reinstall that safeinstaller.

But all solved now.
PS: I did read that a corrupt sd may brick the system, so, that could 've been the problem.

Maybe this thread will be good for future noobs like me that might enconter that instalation problem. And first thing to try, power off system, backup the microSD and reformat it (or try a different one if you have) then put all back into the microSD and try again.
