Hacking i just need a straight answer, i know there is a sticky, but im confused

I went for the OLED one because it was highly praised everywhere and was very disappointed with the mura effect. Maybe I was unlucky since it is just very noticeable on my screen and covers a big part of it but it is damn ugly and irritating, it bothers me a lot. I will never buy anything with an OLED display again.
Also, the OLED screens are more prone to degradation than the LCD ones, so it does not make sense to buy a device with a degradable display which are you going to use for pirating all the games. You would want it to last. Moreover, if you can’t compare OLED to IPS directly side by side you’ll never know the difference.
Vita Slim has better design: the leds are on the top side, you can’t see them normally, start/select buttons are easier to use, screen is glass instead of plastic, μUSB instead of a proprietary port, IPS screen uses less power, the system weighs less, it’s thinner, it’s slim, you know. It does not feel as sturdy as the Fat one, but it does not really matter.
I bought a Vita Slim and I think it’s superior. Extra 1GB of internal memory is useful too: e.g. you can keep emulators / ROMs there, just pop out the memory card and you'll be able to use it. The greatest advantage for me is no more irritating mura which drove me nuts.

Thanks for explaining that. People just look at the model 1000 screen and just think about the colors, not thinking about the long term effects of oled vs lcd/led. That plus ignoring the extra things that the slim model has.

OLED version is drastically better in quality. However bear in mind that the LED in the Vita Slim probably has a higher life expectancy and will not gradually deterioate as much as the OLED one (Plus possible burn in problems and possible uneven areas at manafacture). But usually this would take many years or more to be noticable

What games are you going to play? If it's primarily Vita games than the Vita 1000. If you plan on using this for NES, SNES, PS1, PSP, any other system on the planet then get the LCD version because the black crush of the 1000 model is uselessly horrible on the Vita 1000. I simply won't waste my time playing a PS1 game on the 1000 anymore as it ALWAYS looks so bad.

I mean look on the first page of this thread. Look at the youtube video. Now look at how you can see all the variances of black on the LCD version and the OLED just black crushes it to death. You are LITERALLY losing display information with the OLED. This goes across the entire system be it the browser, an emulator, ps1 or PSP game. It even does it in Vita games.

Now you can get the better battery life, better screen, thinner sexier system..or you can get the brick.

Personally I have both. OLED on latest firmware and the LCD for hacking. Best of both worlds.

Slim feels cheaply constructed and lacks the quality heft of the original unit as you can tell they were cost cutting. In terms of battery I feel the Phat does fine, sure its no Gameboy but it isn't a Gamegear either and it more than services my gaming needs whilst out and about because any place that requires more than 5 hours has a power point in it.

The display however is really, really nice as its just so bright and vivid.

Only thing I disliked about the machine were its ergonomics but once you've added a grip then the buttons/analogs line up perfectly with your natural hand position and places this firmly as my number one portable as its got such a great library.

Speaking of which, I know this may not be "cool" but games on the Vita are really quite cheap and worth paying for - a novel idea I know - as you just get so much more enjoyment out of them that way as opposed to the "Download, play ROM for 30 minutes, decide its crap, get another one" approach as you actually put some time and effort into selecting a title and there are so many quality games out there to choose from.

Digging the whole emulators and homebrew side of it though as its always nice to have some classic options on the move.

yeah its fair to say after i bought a soft silicon grip & the Ps Vita Xbox One analog caps
with the 0LED is when i could for long sessions,,, without theses add on's i would get hand cramped ...

u get a extra hour of play with the SLIM ... but 4 to 5 hours on the OLED is plenty for me...

You actually can get up to 2 and a half extra. At least from what I've seen.

Yeah no..the PS Slim feels way better built. The original is heavier sure but it's objectively inferior in build quality.

Now I perfer the OLED in terms of FEELING 20x more. Not even close. Add the X1 caps and now we are talking about a system you can actually play for hours. I wish the OLED was good then I'd have just bought another one of them.

i doubt it ... some games takes more juice than others.. so i guess its depending on what you're playing

im not really interested in oled. i know how it is, i have valaxy phone with super amoled display, it is great ,but i dont mind regular lcd. also i have psp slim that has lover quality construction than vita slim, so i dont mind slims quality, but what am concerned about is vita battery, funcionality and compatibility, hardvare etc... more than screen or build quality. also i need only one that is good for vita, psp games and emulators that will function great and with plenty of battery life.
but it interesting to see all opinions on console

Just to put in my 2c, having owned both:

Yes, the OLED Vita screen is superior as far as color saturation and brightness goes.
That is the only benefit.

It weighs more than the Vita Slim, the lit buttons are annoying, and the proprietary charger was a terrible choice.
Going back to the OLED screen, at least for mine, the mura effect was offputting in certain lighting

The Vita Slim is:
Lighter
Thinner (better hand feel)
Uses a standardized micro-USB charger
Has longer battery life
Built-in memory (for those that don't have a memory card)

The only knock on it is that it doesn't have an OLED screen. And having owned both, this is only real apparent if you put them side by side. The color saturation might be at a 12 whereas the Slim is at an 9. The slim doesn't look washed out, the OLED just really pops with color. But again, the downside is that you take a substancial battery hit to power the screen, and the aforementioned mura effects.

I've owned a PS Vita 1K since 2013 and recently bought a Slim for hacking purposes.
IMO, you should only get the the 1K if you absolutely must have the OLED screen. Otherwise, the Slim is superior in just about every way.
It has a longer battery life, better button design, better ergonomics, a micro USB port, a smaller rear touchpad (this is a plus, trust me), it's also lighter, thinner and has a better grip.
Another thing i barely see anyone talking about is that the Slim's LCD screen is considerably less bright compared to the 1K's and that this is actually a very good thing. The 1K's OLED screen is incredibly bright even on it's lowest brightness setting which makes it just awful for use in low-light environments, whereas the Slim doesn't have this issue because the screen is actually dim enough on the lowest setting.
There's also the fact that the Slim's LCD screen doesn't have the OLED's strange mura effect (See http://i.imgur.com/uAPSf.jpg).

tl;dr: Get a 1K only if you absolutely need the oversaturated colors, otherwise get a Slim.

I wouldn't recommend buying a new OLED at this point AT ALL.

Batteries die over time, usually buying a new system will have a "fresh battery" but if that system has been sitting in a warehouse for the past 5 years without being charged once... Probably will be weak or won't even hold power anymore, you can find new OLED systems on amazon for like $300 - $400 but I wouldn't buy a new system that looks awesome with a deficient battery out the box and even worst at that pricetag...
