I want to get Persona 4 Golden, but my memory card only has like 4gb left, so installing it via vpk would take at least 6gb. So, if I export a save of a visual novel I'm currently reading, delete the novel, download Persona 4, delete the vpk file, so the memory drops down to 3gb, re-download and install the novel I was reading, and inject the save I exported to still keep all my stuff. Is that possible or nah? Does it work that way?

Should work.

Alternatively you could use a mai dump of the game which doesnt need 2x the space for install, or the vpk install method where you install the modules and eboot via vpk and then copy the data over with ftp.

Vpk are just renamed zip files, just rename Persona's vkp extension to zip and open it with 7zip (or whatever you use.) > extract the other files and just leave the modules and the eboot > repackage the zip > rename extension to zip > install > ftp the rest of the files.

Basically what this guy said:

Iirc, you specifically need to leave the following in the vpk file:

/sce_module/
/sce_sys/
/eboot.bin

Also leave all subfolders inside those folders in the vpk.

Place all the other data inside a folder you can find later and then send the vpk over and install it, then open vitashell and send the data you saved over via ftp, you will place it in ux0:app/[gameid], where [gameid] is obviously the id of the game you just installed. If you are unsure, it will be the only folder in ux0:app/ with no just the two folders and eboot.bin file listed earlier.

huh, that is a bit odd.

sys_module contants the various .suprx files that the game has to load (think DLL files from windows) in order to run properly, and sce_sys contains (among other things) the param.sfo file that tells the system various information about the application being installed (titleID, catagory, permissions, etc). The eboot.bin file is the game executable itself. All three are required at a minimum for title to install/launch. Sounds like you have a bad dump

oops, nevermind. i renamed the vpk into .zip
I renamed it to .7z and got all 3 files.
If you have 7zip installed, you can right-click on the vpk file and under "7-Zip" you should see various options for extracting/opening the file.

hmmm, this is what i did:

open up the vpk by changing the format to 7z
get all 3 files listed above
put it in a separate folder
compress it into a zip
change format to vpk
ftp
install
then i get an error. I think it was Error:ExFFFFF or something like that

Try doing the same without compression. Just use "store".

If that doesnt work, try this:

Make a copy of the vpk (for safety in case something goes wrong).
Copy all of the data files (everything except the three I mentioned yesterday) to an empty folder on your computer.
Delete everything from the vpk EXCEPT the two folders I told you about and the eboot.bin file.
Send this new smaller vpk to your vita and try installing it.

Store? Where do I find that option?

Just give FTP PSVita VPK Installer (https://github.com/Llop1s/FTP-PSVita-VPK-Installer/releases) a try first. It can't be easier to use: click "Open Game..." and select your VPK, wait till it finishes unpacking it to C:\temp (P4 Golden is pretty big and this may take a minute), put in the correct IP address, and click "Install". Wait till the complete dialog to pop up. If your VPK is good and there is enough space on memory card, it will definitely work because I installed P4G this way.

You can check the content of "C:\temp" before clicking "Install" to see how much space this game actually uses. Some VPKs are highly compressed and may use much more space after install than the size of VPK.

A bit of warning with this method, you should check your VPK for malicious code first with tools like VPKTool because VitaShell won't check for elevated permission in this case.

Depends on the software you are using. Most archive software has an option for no compression though.

Its usually under the compression level settings and will be something along the lines of "0", "store", "archive", "none"

Does it require double amount of space?
