Hardware Saving this bricked 3DS?

Well I had no hopes of saving my 3DS anyway. Thank you for all of your help! My 3DS bricked CONFIRMED.

Do you have any NAND backups? (Created with Decrypt9, or any emuNAND/RedNAND)
If so, with a hardmod, you can restore the device.

A hardmod involves the following:

• Open the case using JIS00 screwdriver
• Disconnect many small ZIF cables without damage (careful -- do NOT lift tabs for ZIF cables!)
• Disconnect other small cables without damage
• Solder three wires to small solderpads on the motherboard
• Solder one wire to ground point on motherboard
• re-assemble the 3DS
• Attach those four wires to SD card adapter

This is just a high-level overview, there are threads dedicated to hardmod, as well as a thread dedicated to listing people who will hardmod your device for a fee. If you are not comfortable with a soldering iron, do not attempt this as a first project.

FYI, in the USA and Germany, hardmods are typically still less expensive than a new 3DS unit. I don't know for Sweden.

That's what the manual update will use, whatever your last wifi settings were.

Just chiming in here, the 3DS asks you if you want to modify the Internet Settings in case an update fails because of the connection. And that's still safe mode FIRM.

Thanks for the correction. I'm repeating what's been said in other threads, and the dangers of having dns nintendo server blocking settings before a semi-brick. Do you know if they were just wrong, or if something changed?

I think nothing changed, however I would need to see the exact cases since something could have slipped by my attention.

Well, if you reach a point of giving up, please don't throw it away. I'm sure you could find someone to purchase it, if not for hardmodding themselves (since you have a backup), then they could at least use it for spare parts.

I can't say for sure, as you appear to be in Sweden. Many countries have ebay available. There's also a buy/sell section on gbatemp.net, which you can use as you have over 100 posts. If you don't get any interest in it, donate it to a reverse-engineering person/group of your choosing... there's always room for additional hardware, as stuff breaks/bricks all the time. Finally, since you have a nand backup, you might also try asking those who hardmod if they're interested.

Just don't expect too much money, as the buyer has to take on risks with a non-functional unit. I would expect about the same as a broken unit on ebay, maybe slightly more, but not much. If you need the money, consider the hardmod ... then either sell or keep the working unit.

That should cover just about all the bases....
