The title says it all. I couldn't find a good tutorial of it.

Tried this video:

emuNAND Tool gave me the 87 parameter error.

Tried this video:

Python 2.7 doesn't create "firmware.bin"

I'm kinda stuck.

If you're wanting to install A9LH and then update, which is highly recommended, you should start with this guide if you have an internet browser, and this guide if you don't have an internet browser but you have a DS flashcart.

After Luma3DS won't boot the system, this next one is odd.
  1. Open Hourglass9 from arm9loaderhax by holding Start on boot
I did, but it sill goes back the Luma on the whole "won't boot scenario". What did I mess up on?

EDIT: Do I delete Luna3DS or...

You don't delete anything unless the guide tells you to. You might want to go back through the steps that involved putting stuff onto the SD card and make sure you did them properly.

Edit: To be clear, which step are you on? I assume you got to Section III, Step 5 in this guide:
https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-3-(arm9loaderhax)

If that's the case, if you're having issues with Section IV, Step 1, you probably didn't put something onto your SD card you were supposed to.

Aright. I got it. Hourglass9 wasn't renamed.

EDIT: I ran into a black screen. the SD card was missing the Descypt9WIP.bin in the /luma/payload/ folder so I put the file in there. I'm trying to boot it while holding X, but still pulls up a black screen.

As a matter of troubleshooting, you can put Descypt9WIP.bin onto the root of your SD card and rename it arm9loaderhax.bin. Then try starting your 3DS.

Wait, so what step are you on? The guide only mentions putting Decrypt9WIP.bin in the payloads (payloads with an s... not just payload) folder for region swapping and that's after everything else is already working. You also have to rename it to x_Decrypt9WIP.bin so that luma knows to launch it when you hold X.

Okay, I'll try this method.

Step 3: Section IV.

That's what I said. You are not using Descypt9WIP, so I don't know why we're discussing it.
Because you told him to use it to troubleshoot.

In response to this:
I want to say he meant to say Hourglass9, given he never mentioned Decrypt9 in our PMs (the guide doesn't either)

@LuxerWap rename decrypt9's .bin to arm9loaderhax.bin and place it on the SD card root, replacing any other Arm9LoaderHax.bin on it.

If you're able to boot to the Luma config menu by holding Select when turning on, but not able to boot Hourglass9 when holding Start, my best guess would be that you have a typo somewhere.

Can you double check that the file is called "start_Hourglass9.bin" and that it is in the "/luma/payloads/" folder. If you've misspelled "start_" or "payloads" then that would explain the issue.
