Homebrew Updating Free Games?

I got Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and it won't let me play online without an update and I don't want to mess up my 3ds by updating it. Is there a way I can bypass the system update and still update the game somehow?

If you have a CFW you can install the update itself by getting its CIA.

Well yeah but if you have a CFW you can just install the updates on your EmuNAND with no issues.

I am Very new to homebrewing but i understand the concept because I did it on the wii. How exactly do I install the updates from EmuNAND? Can you perhaps be kind enough to write me a tutorial or perhaps link me to another thread that could help me?

It's simple. All you have to do is go to the system settings and install the update there. But MAKE SURE you're not in your SysNAND.
