Hacking Gateway 3DS

Hey guys,

So recently I decided to get a flashcard for my 2DS (ver 9.2), and so I bought the Gateway 3DS since it offers simplicity and many positive reviews.

So I'm getting the card this week hopefully, and I saw on their site that it says they support up to firmware 10.7. Should I update my 2DS firmware or keep it at 9.2?

Also does anyone have a guide for how to properly install Gateway on a 2DS? Also, do I need to buy anything other than 1 microSD card and an adapter?

Do not update your 3DS or it will become unhackable.
You don't need your Gateway to play games. Your best bet is to follow this guide: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki and then later if you really really want to use your Gateway you can follow this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/

If you are happy with very inferior hax then do this:
1. Download the 3.7.1 pack from the Gateway website
2. Put launcher.dat on your SD card (the one inside the console)
3. Go to go.gateway-3ds.com/old/ in your browser
4. In the menu that eventually appears, choose format emuNAND and let it finish (ten mins or so)
5. Choose enter gateway mode
6. Go to system settings and make sure it says GW3D 9.2.0
7. Don't exit settings!!!!
8. Go to other settings then update. Let it finish.
9. Now drag and drop .3ds games onto the mSD of the gateway card
10. With the cartridge in, press Select to choose a game to play

The above method will suffice to play games but what I said first is way better.

get started here. You set up cfw, and be good to go. If you want stuff like brick protection, %100 boot rate into cfw, and custom boot animations (and a lot more), go here and after that, here. Those extra two guides are completly optional, and will take a few extra hours, but I find it (and many others) worth it. I would highly advise you switch to saltfw to minimize clutter and faster boot rates if you do decide to do the 2 extra guides.

also, gateway is not advised. While they are stable, a few bricks have happened. There is brick code in gateway's software that will kill you device if it is activated. Its meant for clone carts, but it has triggered for users with real carts. The best thing about gateways at this point is that cheat codes are easier to set up, and you can drag and drop roms. If you do do the 2 extra guides above, NEVER UPDATE WHEN USING THE GATEWAY CARD. YOU WILL LOSE YOUR HACK METHOD. AND BE ON THE LATEST FIRMWARE WITH NO WAY TO DOWNGRADE WITHOUT A HARDMOD OR ANOTHER HACKED 3DS. update in cfw, ALWAYS

No. He has not set up his Gateway yet. And even if he had, he still needs to set up homebrew and make the backups and stuff from the end of Part 2.

yes, and standerd sd card works with a 2ds

No. He has not set up his Gateway yet. And even if he had, he still needs to set up homebrew and make the backups and stuff from the end of Part 2.

If you are able to cancel it, yes. There is a little bit you can do with Gateway that is useful (cheating) but most users agree it isn't worth paying that much for.
Any SD card will work but should be 4GB-32GB for easiest use. 2GB is too small to set up a9lh with and 64+ requires an extra program to format it since Windows won't do it.

Instead of getting a Gateway (since it looks like you canceled your order) you could get an R4 (for a lot cheaper than a Gateway. R4 is like $12) and be able to play NDS games.
