So I was looking around for a reasonably priced white N3DS to find to my dismay that in most online shops they're sold out. And the ones that do have them are selling them for £170+, did Nintendo discontinue making them or something?

Stores only get certain stock per month, probably alot of people bought n3ds systems. They'll restock them. But big stores like Amazon have alot of them, why don't you order one there?

If you live in America, you can get a n3ds refurbished from Nintendo for a good price https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/us/p...lse&productId=prod650236&categoryId=cat750776
amazon is like 157.50 im looking for 139. i guess ill wait until sun and moon come out.

What is happening is a very brief and temporary out of stock situation to ensure every system on the market will be shipping with 11.0 fw. Amazon pulled this last week and it is now a reality there.

I got a 10.7 just in time from Jet.com even though I wasn't sure I really wanted it. You need to start searching local shops with one of the serial number reference sheets as your chance of getting a hackable unit is growing slimmer by the day.

What's wrong with a used system? As long as you can check the system out in person to see the firmware and to check if anything is wrong with it i don't see the problem. It's also cheaper to get a used system over a new one.

Yes its true I tried to get one in the shops about 3 months back and I was told that all N3DS/3DS's had been sent back for updating units and it looks like now online retail have all done the same. You might find one on ebay if your very lucky but I doubt very much you will find one in a retail shop now. I had to give up unless a premium price was paid which they didn't want to pay.

Wait after summer for the new stocks for xmas gifts
You wont get one even at xmas, all brand new units will be on FW11x now, especially now! Nintendo will want to make sure all units will be on 11x to put a stop to the exploits, remember the 3DS is Nintendo's best selling unit of all time so trust me all the stops will be put out to be 100% sure! I think the WiiU is a bit different they know that unit is a flop so they might as well make money on the back of being able to play back ups because selling it is not going well, they will sell more stock off because of the exploit rather than not. The 3DS has always been successful to Nintendo so its something they want to make sure is kept legit.

Argos has them in stock for £149.99, I found some independent game stores selling them for as low as £115 (new and unopened). If you want one on a lower firmware version, the Entertainment Exchange has them, but often they have minor scuffs or dirt.
