Hacking [Q] Playing NDS on Gateway

Sorry for the noob question as I have been out of the scene for awhile now. I have a O3DSXL which has been downgraded to 4.2.0-9U in order to do the 'nds profile' exploit in order to boot into Gateway mode for the red card. The emulated firmware is currently set at GW3D 11.0.0-33U.

My question is as of late I've had a desire to replay Soul Silver (like an idiot sold my physical copy a few years back for cheap). So I tried to put .NDS files on the GW blue cart's mSD, however my system no longer reads that cart at all. So I went ahead an bought a simple R4iSDHC v2016 in order to play any NDS titles that I desire. That being said, do I need to boot into GW mode then insert the R4i? Or can I just turn my system on 4.2.0-9U and just play the NDS games without booting into GW mode.

My biggest issue is that I do not want to loose the simple functionality of just going to system > profile > nds profile to boot into GW mode. As before downgrading to 4.2.0-9U I had to boot into GW mode via the web browser.

Just put the R4 in like any game card, no need to be in GW mode

I dont think so... I tought only DSIware did that

4.2.0 was easily patched. Most carts will boot from the system NAND.

As far as messing with your NDS profile, I'm not aware of games changing it.

Playing any nds file is gonna mess with the mset exploit you have set up. I suggest updating to 9.2 and then install menuhax to autoboot into gateway and you'll no longer have to worry about the mset exploit. This is if you have no desire to switch anything. If you do want a arguably better set up, I suggest updating to 9.2 and googling Plialects guide and follow that.

This. This is the best response, and the best advice. Definitely should consider this. It's worth it.

You can always reinstall the mset hack.
Just put the corresponding nds file on your r4ds card.
