Hi, which guide should I follow if I wanted to shift from GW Emunand to CFW? CFW seems like a much easier and better choice than GW if I read correctly :D
System: New3DS 9.2
Rxtools not up to date already? Still saw replies on its thread and can't tell which CFW is more updated with the latest features by reading threads
CFW nowadays can boot up with close to 100% rate and without the use of extra cartridge like GW and can also convert 3DS to CIA etc. right?
Where do I start guys? Really need someone to shed me some light :)
https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki/Part-3-(RedNAND) unlike other people you should really read the guide fully and you may want tounlink nands before updating emunand to 11.1 but, it most likely wont effect you.
if u have an emunand replace RED with emu
even though u asked for CFW this is a fullproof way for both gateway and nonGW 3ds' and will allow for better system control
i believe there is also gateway port for A9LH but dont quote me on that

So this guide will help me to install the CFW, Luma3DS in the end? I would like to avoid the GW cart in the end so following this guide will do?
Another question is that can I turn 3ds to cia without old3DS with CFW or CFW isnt needed at all for the conversion?
Thanks!

once u install a9lh correctly you can get the uncart payload https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/40etaz/tutorial_dumping_3ds_carts_and_converting_3ds/ follow along with that as best u can
ignore the part about 9.2

Since you're on 2.1.0-4, use this guide to get your console-specific OTP. Then follow the rest of that guide to set up arm9loaderhax.

@KunoichiZ Thank you so much for your reply. But to gain 9.2 FW, i still need a Cart to update to 4.5 or 9.2 which is not possible for me :( as Japanese region games are not available in my Country.
One more question, if i update my o3Ds to latest available 11.xx FW, is there any way to downgrade to 9.2 without "HARDMODE"??

Fieldrunners soft mod for 11.0

Yes because you will need it later in the guide in Section IV.
yep thanks, didn't see that... looks like I'll just have to wait until I get a new SD card. is there anything else I can delete though?
7slap
like can I delete the formatted emuNAND.bin?

No, because your nnid can get stuck on your a9lh 3ds according to Platiect's guide.

I think he means this because in this guide he does it the other way round, where he doesnt want to actually switch the network id on Nintendos side for the 3ds's and this is why he creates a dummy new one, only for the purpose of being able to system transfer at all. But for me, this is actually what i want.

Total noob here, haven't had a handheld console since the GBA.

I want to walk into a Best Buy/Walmart and pick up a brand new N3DS XL.

The result? I want to be able to run any 3DS backup, NDS backup, play anything from the store that's "backed up", and somehow run gba/gbc roms. I basically want my N3DS to be able to play just about any nintendo handheld game released so far, regardless of console, without headaches (obviously with sound, full speed, saving, etc.)

What's my best approach here.

1. Is there some way to do this with some free homebrew/software that works with the newest firmware?
2. CFW means custom firmware, but what is its purpose exactly?

3. Should I get a flashcart?
4. If so? Which flashcart? I've seen the table, and the DSTwo+ looks the best, but it requires v9.2.

5. Can I downgrade my N3DS to 9.2?
6. Do I need to perform a "hard mod" to downgrade?
7. If I can get my hands on a 9.2 3ds xl, or downgrade an n3ds to 9.2, can it play new games released, or do the new games check the current firmware?

Thanks for all the help everyone :)

First it would be useful to know what firmware you are on right now.... it is possible to downgrade to 9.2 from some versions, also I may be wrong but I thought new 3ds did not come at the latest version. Also there is free software you can install using just your 3ds and an SD card to do what you want but it is a bit of trouble if you don't know what you're doing. https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki there is a guide that should help you easily install the software. In regards to flashcarts I don't really know whats good or how hard they are to set up.

Please repost your image. It's not showing up.
It doesn't matter, I have finished installing a9lh, now I suppose my question is what do I do? I assume I can run .cia files now which includes games, is it possible to get emulators for GB/GBA/DS? Can I run DS roms anyway (even if it means dumping them from an actual cartridge)? Can I make multiple saves on games now? Also I just want to make 100% sure that I won't get banned if I play (normal or downloaded games) online. I also assume all of this is possible by putting these files on the SD card and then installing the using FBI. Finally, what do I choose in Decrypt9 to dump a cartridge? (should I use full or trim or decrypted etc)

1) You can install CIA files in FBI.
2) You can use emulators for GB/GBA or find Virtual Console injects on that iso site.
3) DS ROMs need a flashcart.
4) Install JKSM (a save manager) and you can have multiple saves for games.
5) If you install CIA games you can't get banned from playing online.
6) Yes just put the CIAs onto your SD card and install them with FBI.
7) I'm not sure on the Decrypt9 cartridge dumps as I haven't used that feature of it yet.

Now I have a question. I want to play just DS games on my systems (either my 2DS or n3DSXL, both with A9LH). I don't care about GBA or SNES games as I can find those elsewhere. What flashcard is recommended to play just DS games and what do I need to do to set it up? Are there any patches I need to install?

I have the DStwo(not plus) and would definitely recommend it for DS games however I am not sure if it works with a9lh or version 11.00... I'll have to check, I haven't tested it on my 3ds yet but I will and get back to you. I will probably have to update the firmware on the DStwo to egt it to work if it does. If the DStwo doesn't work I will assume that the only option is to go for a 3ds flashcart like the DStwo+

So the DStwo doesn't appear to work on the latest firmware... Either get a DS/i or an emulator for PC or buy the games. That said it might be possible to use it if you downgrade the 3ds firmware (I just don't know if or how you can and if it will work). Anyway, unless someone finds a way to play DS games using a9lh or something I'm not going to bother. I still want to know what the options in Decrypt9 for dumping carts mean and which I should choose and for what situation.

The popular flashcarts work if i'm correct. (A9LH) I have an R4i RTS cart and it works.
I believe you do need to look up a patched TWL_FIRM cia and install it. i may be wrong.
EDIT: unless you're in Luma, it does it for you so no need for Patched cia.
