Excellent app but one slight problem I have the latest nightly version of loadiine_gx2 but the app keeps telling me an update is available looks like it's trying to download the stable version from a few months ago.
The appstore covers official releases . We could look to add nightlies .

In the case of loadiine_gx2 nighties would be best as the vast majority of people are on the nightly versions from what I read in the loadiine thread on here. What you could add would be when an app updates a backup of the old version is made so that if a problem does happen we can roll back to the last working version

You say the HBAS can run locally or from server. Did you mean locally on the wii u or on local network. I'm looking to find a way to run html5 locally on the wii u and was also thinking I would modify the hbl to do so. This would allow for 60fps hombrew games built on Nintendo Web framework to run without the legality issues of compiling them through the sdk.

Sweet! The only question is if the online services can stay up for more than a month, because that seems to be the problem with the 3DS Homebrew browsers.
He made it so you could use any server you wanted, but will hopefully be adding multiple server support in the future. I also know that wiiubru.com, which is used for the server right now, has been around for a while now, and I don't think it is going anywhere any time soon.

On another note, GBATemp still needs to make that separate homebrew section in the Wii U section, like the 3DS and Wii both have. This thread was already on the second page, lost among all the irrelevant to homebrew threads that have been posted in this section.

The reason most people think there is no homebrew for Wii U, is because of this. You have to really search hard to find all the homebrew for Wii U in the forum.

iiShop would be a cool name, following the 'ii' tradition, I think.
This one's pretty cool, because then it'd be pronounced like eShop because of the ii sound, and it'd make sense because its an unofficial app store. So basically like what Cydia is to the official Apple App Store (which is actually the inspiration for this.)

Hey guys, thanks for all the name suggestions but the term "App Store" is company-agnostic. :P I think it's short, sweet, and to the point. If you really wanna customize it that much, you can change the meta.xml, splash screen, and icon. (Although the meta and icon would be overwritten on an update).

What you could add would be when an app updates a backup of the old version is made so that if a problem does happen we can roll back to the last working version
I had thought about implementing a backup system, but in the end chickened out cause it became too complicated. I've created an issue to track this now, and am open to hearing implementation suggestions.

Do you think it would be acceptable enough to store the backup apps in an unrelated folder on the SD card, or should they be restorable directly in-app?

Would be nice an option to avoid overwrite icon.png files when updating an app.
I agree! :D Made another issue.

The app itself runs locally, but it talks to a server in order to fetch data. Either way, HTML isn't involved or rendered, so this probably doesn't further your goal.

Until the day comes when the IP can be selected from within the console, maybe you could have it download that to the SD. It still has to be run on Windows to actually make/change the elf, but... I mean, it's better than having something on the store you can't really use at all. Plus it's nice to know there's a way to change it without having to download it all over again.
I suppose geckiine's current status in the repository is with the intent of a future update, considering it still requires a patch. That being said, right now, the app store only downloads meta.xml, icon.png, and the elf. Support for additional files to be downloaded would have to be added in through a future update. Sooo you get an issue too. :P
