ROM Hack Binding of Isaac mods?

Is this a thing on 3DS? I found a reddit post from ~11 months ago by a guy how did one but that's all the information I could find.....

The mod format is literally identical to PC once you unpack the romfs. I've done it myself.

Unpack the romfs, install mods from moddingofisaac.

It's rebirth, so afterbirth mods will simply crash. Some UI graphics are slightly different as well, but there's no conflicts.

Generally though, doing this process takes a while and isn't really easy.

Thanks. It does seem to be rather involved, perhaps I'll give it a try once I worked out how to download the mods without have BoI in my (currently non-existent) steam account.


It seems a little strange that there aren't a load of pre-modded CIAs on "that" site.... Perhaps I've found a way to give back to the community...

BoI mods aren't even distributed through Steam - no workshop. moddingofisaac.com or the subreddit for mods are where you get stuff.

As an aside, you really should buy it. And not everybody here likes that place. Like me. Near everything there is improperly built and screwed up in one way or another.

I'm pretty sure moddingofisaac doesn't check ownership of the game. Then again, I could be wrong.

How much of a potato are we talking, by the way? I mean, a 3DS can run it and only slightly chugs. It runs perfectly well on a dual core last-gen intel w/ hd 4000. Isaac doesn't exactly require the best specs in the world.

I haven't checked but their FAQ says it does.

By potato, we're talking I downloaded it from IGG to see if I could run it and got single figure FPS potato. I don't really do PC gaming.

I think you had better upgrade your PC with that level of speed, because you'd have to have something >10yrs old or your hardware is failing.

I tried it and failed. Most mods will just make the game crash unfortunately. If they do work it seems to only want to replace sounds. But the second you start a run the game will end up crashing.

Quite odd since the decrypted game has the same exact layout as the PC version.

1) Don't use afterbirth mods.

2) Anything which changes XML has to be manually done.

you know what, it might not be worth the effort... Anyone know of any precompiled ones knocking about? Obviously you can't give me a direct link but I should think a clue would be enough....

If you're talking about that site -- no. There's no precompiled ones.

There's a reason why rom hacking is hard.

(By the way, you might be able to get away with layeredFS to test this stuff, IDK)
