Homebrew WHats with the 3ds dev mode?

Ok, so recently I heard that it was discovered that a retail 3ds with cfw can run dev mode on a 3ds. My question is, should I install it, and what are the benefits?

There really aren't any benefits unless you're a dev, and even then it can be fairly useless.
