Homebrew DS Upper screen - Can it stretch to 3DS size?

Title. I just want to know because Phantom Hourglass Upper Wide Screen sounds like it might be even better.
Even if it messes it up in a non-gamebreaking way.

And yes, it was about 3 years ago. The wires and everything were mangled.
 
This reminds me of the Gameboy Advance: when playing Gameboy Color games, L/R would toggle stretched screen mode.

Something similar is probably possible (after all, the display is already scaled, we'd just be changing the aspect ratio), but since I have zero experience actually doing something like this, I shouldn't speak for those who can. My guess is that there's just some constants in TWL_FIRM that correspond to the scaled size, but who knows, it might not be that simple.
 
My question is why you would even want to.
Honestly, I don't get why people like versions of older games (VC or backwards compatibility) running at a stretched out aspect ratio. Stuff like DS/GBA stretching on 3DS is fine, but it'd look awful stretched to full screen.
