Hi guys,

I am fairly new to the 3DS homebrew scene, I hacked my N3DSXL (EUR) using this guide a few days ago and up until now everything seemed to work fine.
I used CIAngel to download and install the US version of Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright. This process was successful and the games icon and banner shows up in the home menu correctly. But when I try to launch it, it results in a infinite loop of the "Nintendo 3DS" splash screen. When I try to launch it by opening the homebrew launcher and then HANS, the 3DS gets stuck, with one screen being completely red and the other black.
For reference I tried another game with a different region and actually got a different result: Paper Mario Sticker Star (USA). When launching that from the home menu, the 3DS throws an error a la "An error occured, please reboot the console".
When I try launching it with HANS however, it works just fine.
However the Luma3DS wiki states that Luma3DS is automatically region free, without any configuration - I interpret that as being able to launch games from any region from the home menu. Am I missing or misinterpreting something here?
Any help on how to launch FE:Fates is appreciated.
Thanks,
Kuraudo

Nope. Seems to miss the actual piece to most games for them to run.
CIAngel gets the CIA and ticket, what you need is the 9.6 crypto key for the title. You will need to either visit the eShop page for the title (If it's the same region as your 3DS), or manually cryptofix using Decrypt9 and a SeedDB that contains the games 9.6 crypto key.

This isn't a limitation of CIAngel, it's an extra layer of security Nintendo has on certain titles. As far as I know, no CIA installer or downloader will automagically cryptofix titles that require it (Well, they may ask you to move things to your 3DS, create a file, move them back, run a program, etc. That's the cryptofix process).

Oh, thanks for clarifying. :) I should have probably done some deeper research. All I knew was that newer titles were missing some thing or another.

Thanks for the quick responses, guess I'll have to wait for my FE:Fates Special Edition to arrive in 2 weeks :D

Can someone please clarify, why different-region games that aren't additionally encrypted and do work using something like HANS can't be launched from home menu?

It's not about the region, it's that the seed is missing. That's why you should use ticket injection or find a CIA.
The only CIA that would work is one that's cryptofixed, which he can do himself with a CIAngel generated CIA. A ticket won't help with out of region games, since you can't get them from the eShop, and therefore no seeddb entry.

From the sounds of it, he has a non-9.6 encrypted game that works through HANS, but not directly from the home screen. I'm not sure what would cause that. What game is it?

Yeah, but ticket injection at least lets you properly launch your region's games.

FEif, but he said it red screens with HANS.

No, he accepted that FEif was encrypted with the 9.6 key, he was asking about additional information on why some games work with HANS but not through the home menu. Games that require cryptofixing/seeddb don't work through HANS either. Two different questions going on in this thread.

And ticket injection won't allow you to launch your regions games if they need cryptofixed, CIA's created by CIAngel HAVE the ticket with the correct titlekey, but they lack the 9.6 crypto seed, they are different things. Once you've installed a same-region game with CIAngel, all you have to do is access the games page in the eShop to get the 9.6 crypto seed for the title.

By ticket injection I mean that after the injection I download the game with eShop. That would get the seed too, wouldn't it?

Just accessing the eShop page for the game (Once it's installed) is enough to get the seed, you don't actually need to use the inject just the ticket, and download with eShop method.
