To start off, I downgraded a New 3DS to 9.2 and set up the HBC on it. I'm trying to launch Gateway from the HBC (as instructed by this guide http://scmods.com/gw_guide/GW-3-7-1.pdf), but it hangs at an immediate black screen. After some research on this, I found a tutorial on setting up Gateway through Cakes, but the same issue happens when I try launching the CFW in HBC.

Has anyone had this problem before?

UPDATE:

Same issue with Pasta.

supposely you hadn't to launch gw via cakesfw that defeats its purpose
The purpose of setting up GW in Cakes (or Pasta) is to create an environment in which GW can actually be set up in, since it can't without OOTD or CN (and I don't want to spend more money buying either of those games). Keep in mind that this is a N3DS, not a O3DS.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

But that's beside the point. The issue is that I can't launch either Gateway or CFW from the HBC as it leaves me hanging at a black screen.

maybe someone will be able to respond to your question. the only thing i can tell u is that u would be waaay better with a9lh+luma3ds , but if u by some reason prefer gateway search for a solution

I've always found GW to be more convenient than CFW once it has been set up. Having to screw off the back plate of the N3DS just to get out the SD card whenever I want to put a CIA on there would be a hassle, and FTP would be much to slow for large files.

that's ur choice. on the other hand a9lh is faster and has brick protection and more functionalities and dont treat their clients as shit... but that's your decision

Did you downgrade from a different firmware?
Does any homebrew work?
If you launch CakeCFW then try to load a different CFW like Gateway or Pasta its probably gonna black screen. Set up emunand and menuhax with ctrboot manager

Same issue with Pasta.

Maybe your 3ds was not entirely downgraded or some files got missing during downgrading.
