Hello!
I am fairly new to 3DS hacking and would probably be classified as a NOOB.

I have Homebrew Launcher on my O3DS, v.10.5 and I have NASA on it. I wanted to install the cia for New Super Mario Bros 2. The file seemed legit as it claimed to be it and others said it was working, and it did. Well let´s move on to the real issue.

I successfully installed the cia getting no errors. I could see that the space on my SD card had shrinked. When I rebooted my 3DS the game was supposed to appear on my home screen as a new application, right? Didn´t happen for me. Although in settings it says that the game is installed and is taking up blocks. I tried to launch the game through Hans and that worked. Everything was normal except the game not appearing on my home screen. I believe it´s really inconvenient having to launch Homebrew Launcher and Hans every time I want to play. So is there a reason for the game not appearing? I have tried installing other cias, which didn´t work (not legit?). I haven´t found another legit rom that only takes up a few blocks (my SD card is only 3GB). So I haven´t been able to figure out the cause for this. Is it beacause of this cia perhaps? Or what´s the cause for this?
Help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's probably legit (or it would have failed installing) but for the wrong region!

Special Edition is European, Gold Edition is American.

Oh. As I said I´m a NOOB. My 3DS is EU while the rom is US. I have never understood what the regions really did. So wrong region results in this?

Yes, because only Home really cares about region lock (some games also check themselves, like Flipnote 3D or the video cias)

Oh, well you guys seemed to solve my problem really quickly! Thanks!
The hard thing now seems to be finding a legit EU rom for NSMB2...

You can install NTR (Look it up in this site) and once this is run, the other region games will appear on your menu
Well seems like a great idea. I´ll have it as a plan B if I can´t find a legit EU rom. Thanks!

Special Edition I believe
Yeah, seems like it has to be this one. As i wrote earlier the hard part is finding a legit one...

Well I´m back. I tried installing Pilotwings resort (EU). I tried installing it in NASA, it "says" finished installing but it doesn´t really install. This has happened to me while trying some other roms before. The NSMB2 US rom has been the only one working. NASA has only acted as if they got installed but in reality they weren´t. They aren´t taking any data. It doesn´t say that it fails or anything. Just nothing... Any idea why this happens?

Pilotwings isn't "legit"
You can only install "legit" CIAs on 10.5.
Why not downgrade and make an emuNAND?

Well, you see I don´t really know the definition of a "legit rom". I have thought about downgrading and once again I don´t know the upside of doing it. Plus I don´t know what emuNAND and sysNAND is. I would like to keep my system as it is since I only want to play cias. I´m a NOOB...

You need to downgrade to play any non-legit CIAs and only a few select Nintendo games are legit.

Well it would be quite hard for me to downgrade I believe. There isn´t a way to downgrade from 10.5-9.2 without you buying something, right? So if I got it right I´ll have to upgrade to 10.7 first and then downgrade or what? Browserhax has been blocked since 10.6 and if I update will I still be able to access Homebrew Launcher? I need it to downgrade, right? I have no idea... I´d rather play a few games than risking to brick my device if it´s hard to downgrade.

If you have homebrew on 10.5 you can downgrade from there. Browserhax and Menuhax will work fine.
