Homebrew Shall I hack my 7.1.0 O3DS? Interesting homebrew?

I've just stumbled upon my old O3DS gathering dust in some drawer and it seems it's on firmware 7.1.0-16E, so vulnerable to Browserhax + Menuhax/Themehax.

I understand that a 3DS hacked this way cannot run:
- 3DS ROMs
- 3DS eShop games
- 3DS virtual console games
- DS/GBA ROMs
- DS homebrew

But is there any _really_ interesting 3DS homebrew content currently available? I briefly skimmed through some list of homebrew apps and I can mostly see simple proofs of concept, copter.swf clones, quick'n'dirty emulator ports with no audio etc.

Is there e.g. a working ScummVM port?
How does Quake port perform on the original 3DS? (it worked quite decently on the DS).
Does 3DS homebrew make use of the stereoscopic 3D or not really?
There's a Portal clone for 3DS, right?

Thanks!

You have two (possibly more) options. Install a CFW + emuNAND on 7.1, or use a cart to update to 9.0 or 9.2. On 9.0 you can use browserhax menuhax and CFW.

If you use homebrew to update to 9.2 you can use it to set up CFW and play "illegal" games on it. You can access the eshop just fine. You can also run VC console games and even GBA games (although GBA is a bit harder to do). You can also use custom theme's and custom badges. If you play Pokémon, you can edit/clone your ingame Pokémon and use the homebrew alternative of Pokébank. It's just what you want to do with your 3DS. Unfortunately, as of now, it's not possible to play DS games. Yet.

Thanks!

you can only use the web browser exploit like rxtools or gateway but not browserhax.
I was basing my assumption on this diagram: http://i.imgur.com/MlXbmMg.jpg
...but I guess only versions between 9.0 and 9.2 are susceptible to Browserhax...

Anyway, for "Rxtools" and "Gateway" you're mentioning: do they require buying a specific game or a flashcard?

By "illegal" you mean 3DS ROM dumps?

What I actually meant was: has anyone come up with a way of dumping eShop-exclusive games (as well a VC games) and playing them on a hacked 3DS?

rxTools is free but Gateway needs a flashcard.

YES

RxTools does not require a game or flashcard. Gateway is a flashcard.
Yeah, I mean 3DS games but not ROMS, cia's. Which is basically the eshop installer of the game.
Yeah, you can play eshop games and play them on a hacked 3ds.

I suggest you use this guide to install rxTools CFW. It's easy, and it does allow you to do the following:
  • 3DS ROMs (as installed CIA files)
  • 3DS eShop games (as installed CIA files)
  • 3DS virtual console games (as installed CIA files)
  • GBA ROMs (as installed CIA files and/or emulated through homebrew)

When I read that, I have the same face as your Link avatar.
