huh.

I'd actually say go for it. I don't really think "it bricking" is a valid reason anymore. @Plailect's guide is very thorough and for the most part, safe.
Besides, you already took a risk (unless you never upgraded) downgrading to 9.2. It has the same amount of risk, if not less. Since you're no longer relying on memchunkhax2, which I heard is unstable.

Most CFW devs seem to be moving towards A9LH anyways. You're better off "future proofing" your self.

As for the sysNAND or emuNAND thing, stick with what you feel most comfortable with. Some people are scared to death about touching their sysNAND. Me personally? I made the switch, I use sysNAND full time thanks to AuReiNAND.

It's difficult to say really. When it works, it's worth it. Obviously. But others are right to point out that menuhax offers a similar, safer alternative.

I installed A9LH on my O3DS because I didn't mind risking it and it works lovely - glad I did it. However, will I install it on my N3DS (i.e. my main machine)? Probably not, because I can't afford to replace it if the worst happens.

If you're worried, hold off for the time being,

It isn't imo. I think waiting an extra 10 seconds every time you go into emuNAND is better than risking a brick to save that time. Definitely not worth it.

10 seconds? Yeah, if it just boots the first time. A good 2-3 minutes of turning off and on if you get unlucky.

What about the fact that sysNAND is completely useless if you have emuNAND? :P

Emunand is completely useless if you have A9LH.

At this point in the game I would probably say running a9lh puts you more into the 'enthusiast' class of 3DS hacking whilst using something like menuhax put you more or less into the 'casual' class of 3DS of hacking. Just how I see it as of late.

I can't even find an explanation on what arm9loader hax is, I just see threads about the technicalities of it, and see people talking about it. I don't even know what it is, and I haven't got an explanation.

It took a lot of reading and searching before I figured it out.

Basically think menuhax but faster and more reliable. It requires downgrading to 2.1 and dumping your OTP.bin and then using that to compile the a9lh install 3dsx file.

Once you have it installed it will boot an a9lh .bin file from your sd card before your 3ds actually boots it's firmware. This is what gives you your instant boot to emunand or whatever your a9lh .bin file is pointing to. This is also why it is good for recovery, you can boot decrypt9 even if your sysnand and emunand are bricked.

This is a very simplified explanation and I'm sure someone is going to correct me but you should get the gist of it now.

It's a true boot-time exploit, basically. Different to menuhax because that runs much later in the process, exploiting a vunerability in the system software's themes rather than being a firmware exploit.

In theory, it should allow you to keep your SysNAND updated to the newest firmware version without losing the exploits. In reality, most of us are keeping an EmuNAND just in case.

Ok so essentially, I would say It's unnecessary for me since I'm fine with cfw on O3dsXL and just playing 3ds games for the most part.

It unnecessary for most people as there are few "real" advantages.

Lots of people talk about faster boot times and updating sysnand which are ok but the true gems are the recovery mode and the 3D fix for N3DS. With menuhax even after closing the screen the 3D never worked that well, the difference is night and day.

If you're happy with what you have then there is no need to change it.

EDIT: One advantage for the older folks is this makes a completely child friendly system. There is nothing my kids can do to it that can't be fixed in 30 minutes or less. I don't have to worry about menuhax failing and booting into sysnand only to be updated and destroying everything.

A9LH has almost no risk of brick if you follow the OTP guide. It has failsafes every step along the way. The only real way you could brick is by turning off the 3DS while restoring a Sysnand. The worst thing that could happen is requiring a hard mod( you make Sysnand backup as one of the first steps.)

But its pretty worth it, because you can update to any SysNAND version, and as far as I am aware Nintendo cannot do anything about it. Plus, 100% boot rate at half the time into Emunand is worth it. If you have 2-3 hours, you should do it. Its pretty safe and straight forward.

I installed arm9loaderhax about 5 days ago. It's great. I can access Decrypt9, sysNAND or enuNAND straight from boot! :D If you have reasons to not have it, then don't get it, but otherwise go ahead!

Er... Actually, A9LH worth it

  • It makes emuNAND useless (though you can have it in A9LH);
  • Theoretically you can have CFW in any system version till now (just there's almost no one working on that) with 100% boot rate and super fast;
  • If using emuNAND you can run it faster;
  • It can improve some homebrews there insn't 100% (like GBA emulator and other stuff);
  • It creates a opportunity to create new kinds of homebrews (though no one made something totally new yet)
  • Probably there more stuff that I forget or I don't know

So... it worth whatever you're a dev or a end-user.
