After updating to 9.2, you can use whichever CFW you want. You can use Gateway, rxTools, CakesFW, ReiNAND (N3DS only), etc....

Hello, I am about to downgrade a 10.3 2DS to install a custom firmware and emuNAND but the owner wants to keep his retail games additional datas and e-shop downloads. Is there a particular way to proceed? Thanks in advance.

http://3dsdb.com/ has a list of games and which updates they contain. If you follow the update section from the rxTools guide, you won't need a cart to update though.

Thanks! I don't want to hack my xl at the moment, for now I'd like to play smash and pokemon x on my xl and later use rxTools to install CFW and do stuff with gateway card. It sounds like I can indeed do this so I appreciate putting up with my barrage of questions. I've been out of the loop for a long time.

Edit: I'm especially interested in eventually installing gba games so I'm excited to try that!

Currently in the final stages of trying to get ReiNAND setup on my n3DS.

I've run into a snag, which is that I am having trouble installing any CIA manager.
I have menuhax setup to boot to CTR Boot Manager, and from there I can start ReiNand or RxTools into emuNAND just fine. From there it looked like I needed to do browserhax, then run FBI via the homebrew launcher (which I pick from the boot manager menu) and install FBI or BigBlueMenu or whatever, but it doesn't work. Keeps throwing up the error DESCRIPTION_INVALID_COMMAND.

What do I do?

Did you try per injection? (inject FBI into the Health and Safety application through Decrypt9.

I got a new 3DS and it came with 10.5.30. I have a few questions and I'm hoping people here would be able to clarify:

1. What are my options to play 3DS Roms ?
2. I installed the homebrew launcher. Basically copied the homebrew starter kit to root of Memory card and it came with menuhax. I was able to run homebrew launcher by going to the URL. What is the purpose of installing Menuhax ?
3. Once I have the homebrew launcher could it be used to play DS Roms ? If not, what is it good for besides emulators ?

1- the only option you have is getting a harmod for your 3ds and downgrade to 9.2 so that you can use CFW / install cias

2- menuhax is used to "coldboot" the HBL without needing to use the browser or any other entry point

3- No , you can't play any "pirated" 3ds / DS rooms without CFW , the only options you have without CFW are GBA games and snes games

3. No. // This last question shows you are not on the same page as the creator of this thing. ^^ It is not supposed to serve piracy, but a mean to run amateur programs (with multiple purposes) and (mostly) imported games. Check in the homebrew sub forum for some presentations.

Thanks! So the use of menuhax is to provide easy start of homebrew launcher by pressing the L button.

For question 1 and 3 I basically have to go the route of hardmod and CFW. Do you know how much would that be and if there is a reputable person here ? Also would it be wise to invest in something as sky3ds instead of hardmod ?

According to pofer's reply above hardmod is the option. Is that correct ? would sky3ds be an option ?

So I haven't really been up to date with the advances in the 3DS scene and would like some assistance.

Right now I have a GW card and while it's nice and all, it's a pain in the ass having to do the Browser exploit to boot into emunand. Apparently CFWs can boot directly into emunand now, so that's nice. I'm going to follow this guide:

Unless there's a newer guide somewhere that someone can point me towards. I'm a little confused on whether or not I can still boot games from my GW card or will I have to install cia's for everything?
